Salary Question

My wife just got a new job at a bank. For the last 8 years of our married life, we have been very used to her receiving a paycheck every week. She starts this job and they tell her that she will now be getting paid twice a month, once of the 15th and once on the 30th.

My question is, if you get paid bi-monthly and you were used to being paid weekly.........how big of an adjustment was it for you and your family?

I know this sounds like a silly question; but something deep down inside of me hates the change of routine

No big deal for me to adjust to it Scott. A long time ago I used to get paid once a week too. When I switched jobs my paycheck was once a month. Every company I worked for since then before going on my own was a once a month paycheck too. You may have to budget until you get used to it.

Simple budgeting of money. Money should never burn a hole in your pocket.

If you want a weekly paycheck just use half of it per week.

For a fee I can send you almost half of it per week and it will feel like the old way of being paid. LOL and JK.

Honestly, you'll be ok. It just takes a few weeks to get used to it as Rhino said.

I think after the first month of it you will have the hang of it. It will take some getting used to. I think all of us are afraid of change to a degree, but once we get into the swing of things we are fine, it is simply making the change we fear. You will have it mastered in no time.

I was used to getting paid every Monday 6 years ago, then went to getting paid on the 1st of every month 6 years ago. I got used to it and now everything works out just fine

I think everyone gets paid every two weeks around here. I always have when I worked for others.

I get paid once a month. It's pretty easy to adjust.

I get paid every second Friday. Most jobs up here pay every two weeks. When I get paid I pay my car and car insurance payment, my credit card bill, and the rest is there afterwards. When I first got my job, all of my money would be gone in no time, because I'd impulse buy. I've learned to budget and save more carefully now though.

Yep, good advise there. We deposit in the bank every two weeks and use what we have to whenever we need to.

Oh I think it will be an adjustment to the budget for awhile, but I don't think it will hamper you too long.

Make sure that your major payments are spread out throughout the month. If you have a house, credit card and 2 car payments all due the same week it could be a little stressful if the last paycheck is already spent. We moved a few payments around and it was better for us.

I hate change also. But i had several jops in my lifetime. Dock worker, lake boats, Coastguard to mention a few. Than 30 years with the local Goverment in Recreation Department. Got through them all. You will adjust.

I haven't been paid weekly in over 20 years but if memory serves me correctly, it's wasn't that big of a deal switching. Today my wife and myself both get paid bi-monthly and it works just fine.

I worked on that pay schedule for over 4-years. I HATED EVERY MINUTE OF IT. Sorry to say that but it annoyed me to no end. Granted you have a check on the same dates each month but if youre use to getting checks on Friday or every other it will stink.

Good luck with it. I was never in a bind due to the pay schedule but i never learned to like it.

Like Ranger Clay said, spread out those regular payments. Pretty much everybody will adjust your billing cycle slightly to accomodate you, including your mortgage and credit cards. Set it up so that half of the bills come due after one pay check hits the bank, and the others come due after the other paycheck hits the bank.
