Guest brl
do you guys think a 150 grain winchester supreme shells are good enough to shot black bears or would you go to something bigger
OJR
Re: .308 for black bear The 308 is plenty to shoot a black bear. However, I would probably go with the Hornady Interbond bullets and shells. That or something loaded with a Barnes bullet!
Squirrelhunter91
Re: .308 for black bear .308 is fine. You're fine with a .308 & 150gr bullets.
rifleman25
Re: .308 for black bear 150 gr winchester supreme fail safe fired out of my .308 win has taken alot of elk and muleys for me. I also have 2 black bears with that choice. You will be just fine with it.
Shaun_300
Re: .308 for black bear Yep, plenty of gun! I'd even go to the 180gr's.
_MD_
Re: .308 for black bear We kill moose with our .308. You should be fine with your selection
Valkrie1357
Re: .308 for black bear Yup, Plenty of Power. Use the Soft Core. 4 of the five bears our group took in 2005, 475# 325# 200# 200# the 150gr didn't pass through on any of them. You want a bullet that will expand & flatten out, so the beast takes all the energy your shell has to offer. if it goes through you have wasted energy. (kinda) the other one was taken with bow, & the arrow did pass through. 425#
elkhntnfool
Re: .308 for black bear The .308 with a premium bullet will take any animal that North America has to offer. Just make sure you do your part and put your bullet where it counts.
Guest Colorado Bob
Re: .308 for black bear For my black bear hunts here in Colorado which were over bait @ 50 yard shot. I used a 180 grain round nose "Core-lokt" out of my 30/06. It took 2 bears in 2 years with no problem---then baiting bear became illegal via a vote of the people, if it was still legal I would be using the same setup. I see your from Canada so, I'm assuming it's going to be a bait hunt. 308 & 30/06 are darn near equal. I would use a 180 grain round nose out of the 308. superguide
Re: .308 for black bear Was at a friends house and he has a Winchester Model 88 lever in .308-sadly our friendship ended when he wouldn't sell it to me-it's a sweet little gun for sure.
