Urban wild life

I've seen the pretty typical sights of deer, racoon, fox, woodchuck, waterfowl... but now, dead smack in the middle of the Twin Cities I've got a wild turkey that likes to hang out on a particular intersection corner near my home. Over the last week I've seen this same bird within 40 feet of the same spot on my way to work in the mornings and again in the evening on my way home. There's a small patch of trees about 40'x40' at that corner where I think it's roosting.

I've got a friend in another part of St. Paul who also has a turkey that she's been seeing on a regular basis.

The thought is that they're coming up from the heavily wooded areas along the Mississippi river and staking out new territory.

I'm afraid that one day this bird is going to be roadkill. I had to stop for it a couple of days ago while it ambled around in the road without a care.

It's fun to see it though. In fact, my son and I have started to make a game of "Who can spot it first" as we head out on my way to take him to school in the morning.

Re: Urban wild life

My Wife and I play a similar game...but for vary different reasons!!!

There's a Skunk that likes the neighbors house acrossed the street. After spending the day rummaging around in the woods behind the neighbors house it likes to walk around the house a few times and then go to bed underneath it.

She has promised to tell me if she's seen it so I dont get sprayed in case I let the dog out to use the telephone pole or something.

I ah...ah... I told her I would do the same grin.gif

Re: Urban wild life

it's a big problem in Cleveland, last year a saw a carcass of a huge 10-point on the side of a major highway just about 2 miles from the heart of Downtown. There was only a small patch of woods nearby. No clue where this big guy came from.
