TurkeyHunter
I'm going to try and sell a 12GA Mossberg 835 Ulti-Mag here in the forums but never sold a gun online. Can anyone tell me hows the best way to ship a gun and will I have any problems going through UPS or Fedex ect. Also do they jack up the price on shipping for guns? Also sorry if I posted this in the wrong area just thought I might get a better response here. Feel free to move it if so. Thanks!
VTbowman
Re: Question about selling a shotgun. To ship a firearm you must have a FFL licence (Federal Firearms Licence) and ship to someone who also has a FFL. Thus is according to ATF rules/laws. Normally you take into to your local gun shop who would have a FFL licence and ship to the local gun shop of who ever buys it. I believe they use UPS... TurkeyHunter
Re: Question about selling a shotgun. OK thanks for the help. Since I dont have a FFL license I guess I wont be selling it online then. However Ive seen a few people selling rifles and never seen in the post about having to have a FFL license to buy it from that person. Unless most people already knew about the FFL license. Again thanks for the reply!
VTbowman
Re: Question about selling a shotgun. Not sure but I think its posted somewhere on here. If not it should be... I know you do not need one to sell a muzzle loader, but you do for a shotgun, rifle or pistol...

birddog
Re: Question about selling a shotgun. I sold a gun a few months ago: I brought the gun into the local UPS office, they shipped it for me: As long as it is being shipped to someone with a FFL it is very easy to do. AJ
Re: Question about selling a shotgun. [ QUOTE ] To ship a firearm you must have a FFL licence (Federal Firearms Licence) [/ QUOTE ] This is not true. The shipper does not have to have an FFL, the receiver does have to have an FFL. The receiver does not necessarily have to have an FFL unless: 1 - they are outside your immediate state and/or 2 - state law says otherwise Its best to cover your butt to ship to a FFL holder. You will need a copy of the license signed in ink (not a copy of the signature) by the person receiving shipment. Here it is from ATF FAQ [ QUOTE ] (B8) May a nonlicensee ship a firearm through the U. S. Postal Service? A nonlicensee may mail a shotgun or rifle to a resident of his or her own state or to a licensee in any state. Handguns are not mailable. A common or contract carrier must be used to ship a handgun. A nonlicensee may not transfer any firearm to a nonlicensed resident of another state. The Postal Service recommends that longguns be sent by registered mail and that no marking of any kind which would indicate the nature of the contents be placed on the outside of any parcel containing firearms. (B9) May a nonlicensee ship a firearm by carrier? A nonlicensee may ship a firearm by carrier to a resident of his or her own state or to a licensee in any state. A common or contract carrier must be used to ship a handgun. In addition, Federal law requires that the carrier be notified that the shipment contains a firearm and prohibits common or contract carriers from requiring or causing any label to be placed on any package indicating that it contains a firearm. too_pointer
Re: Question about selling a shotgun. I ran into this in Tenn. hog hunt. Norm S. sent my muzzleloader back to me by sending it to a sporting goods store down my block. I had the store make a copy of their ffl for me to send to Norm, it went really smooth. too_
TurkeyHunter
Re: Question about selling a shotgun. I guess I'll try and sell it then work out the details on shipping it if it sells to a buyer.

bigmoss
Re: Question about selling a shotgun. Just a note here alsoto put rumors at rest, you can also sell to a Canadian. There are rumors you cannot and that is false. All the Canadian member has to do is send you a photocopy of there Firearms card front and back ( they must possess one of these if not then no cannot sell to them ) . When you ship the gun include these papers in your shipping documents with the USPS. Post office is WAY easier than a courier. When Canadian customs get it they will send the Canadian member a letter asking them to send the original to them to verify. They will register the gun under your card and poof all legal and registered. Done it many times with no issues at all.
