SuperMn106 Posted May 8, 2006 Report Share Posted May 8, 2006 Ok, i have a dilema. With the rising gas prices it is gettin hard to afford my truck. I have a 2003 Chevy Silverado 2500hd extended cab, 4x4 with a 8.1 (496) in it. It has 34,500 miles on it. It is the LS edition, and i was wondering what everyone thinks i might be able to get out of it. i still owe 22k on the truck and want to get enough to pay it off. i am only getting about 11 mpg . I think your gonna have a hard time getting a fair amount for it. Once you drive a vehicle off that dealers lot its resale value drops dramatically! I figure the reserve is probably a half gallon so I get about 45 mpg and it is quick and fun to ride. Mine is far from new but saves me a ton. It is a 1995 model. Large cars and trucks are moving like they were. Gas prices have people looking other directions. Trying to move something that drinks gas is going to be difficult to say the least. If I were to try and sale it Id be putting it in the bargan post and such. Taking it back to a dealer will more then likely cost you. If its in the bargan post (or truck trader) youre going to be shopped by people looking for something in the same class. To top that off, youre only going to spend a little for feedback... If you buy a little Toyota for cheap, you'll probably be able to drive the thing until it dies and end up saving a ton of money. Those little Toyotas are good little cars too. My girlfriend sold her Corolla to a guy at her work. She sold it for $500 with 222K miles on it, the guy who bought has been driving to work everyday for the past year-and-a-half. Again, if people are buying "Truck Trader" they are looking for something in that class. Granted you have to deal with the general public but it wont cost much to get the truck out there. With the mileage you've got, you're looking at getting around 22k for a trade in. I know values change depending upon what region you're in, but the high retail on your truck is around 24k. I've used Truck Trader in the past, but the best luck I've had is getting it all shined up and putting a For Sale sign in the window. If you can go a day or two without it, try parking it at a highly traveled area where the types of people that would buy a truck like that would frequent like a Lowe's or Home Depot. Good luck! The yukon at best highway might get 17, my truck 3/4 ton chevy gets 11-12 no matter where or how you drive it. With the kids school situation for this upcoming year, going to be driving about 300 miles more per week than I am now, which means about an extra $65-70 a week in gas.
