elkoholic
First, my condolences to the family and friends of those involved in the shootings. After learning about some of the background concerning this tragic event I am left wondering; why with the history of the shooter was he still allowed to possess firearms and/or obtain a hunting license? Why if a group of people are unable to conceive or except the concept of private property are said people allowed to obtain a hunting license or for that matter allowed to live in the United States? Is there an education problem? Lastly, I can only hope that this is not interpretted as a "hunting" accident, but just one violation of the law (trespassing) compounded by an even greater offense (murder) and that this individual should be sentensed to death by a jury of his peers. Gator
Re: Wisconsin thoughts The one thing I am worried about here is how the "real" hunters in this world will be seen and portrayed after this. I am afraid the impact from this isolated incident is just gonna give the anti-hunters and anti-gunowners more fuel for their respective fires. The unfortunate part of that is theer are people out there to narrow minded to understand that the individual that is responsible here does not portray what real sportsman are about. HarvDog
Re: Wisconsin thoughts Agreed. This has gotten major national exposure so we really need to keep an eye on local and national law makers that may try to capitalize on this incident. Also, I wonder if anyone involved were members on the RT Forums.
buckee
Re: Wisconsin thoughts Lets face it guys, there are crazy people out there in every walk of live. There's crazy doctors, crazy football players, crazy postal workers, crazy hunters, crazy environmentalists, and the list goes on and on. I don't think any one in their right mind would see this horrific event as a black spot against all hunters or all gun owners. The news reporters on the other-hand have a way of twisting the facts and truth behind an event such as this and molding the minds of those listening to believe whatever they want them to. Gator
Re: Wisconsin thoughts buckee, that's the point I was trying to make, how I'm afraid the news media is gonna twist this, also the anti's I was talking about. You ever hear the old saying, "One oh crap will screw up a whole lot of attaboys"
wtnhunt
Re: Wisconsin thoughts Unfortunately Steve is right on. It is sad that this guy was out in public. Sick aspect of this is that the media is already exploiting this. Watched the press conference yesterday and it sure made that gun sound bad. The sks "assault" rifle supposedly had an empty 20 rd. clip when they caught up with the nut and the news people seemed to come up with several stupid very insensitive questions. We all know the gun was not responsible for any of those deaths, but unfortunately this type of thing will add more fuel to the fire of those anti gun supporters and yield more misinfomation to those who just do not know any better. Texan_Til_I_Die
Re: Wisconsin thoughts I really doubt if this guy was even a "hunter", at least not the definition we all know. It wouldn't surprise me in the least to learn that he was out there in the woods with the premeditation to go out and kill someone. He wasn't hunting deer, he was hunting a victim! billygoat
Re: Wisconsin thoughts Latest news tonight is that the man, had served 6 years in the US military in California... as what else... a sharp shooter (he even got an accomodation for performance) wee hee. His latest claim is that he was shot at first after racial slurs were thrown at him, so he began to shoot back. I don't mean to dog the SKS (I am certainly not for the restriction of firearms) but that rifle has been nothing but trouble to the deer hunter since it showed up in the early 90's. It is difficult to set up, and many (some) of the individuals who hunt w/ it set it up like an assault rifle. You hear them rattle of 15 to 20 rounds at a deer and wonder what the **** their thinking. The sad fact is, this whole situation is bad for all of us hunters.
