Re: 35mm Stealthcam converted to digital?

No, it's not feasible. 35mm and digital use different connections to the sensor board. Even if they did use the same contact, the timing would be off and would have to be reprogrammed. Plus, the holes wouldn't line up for the lens and shutter. And you really don't want to use a cheap stealth sensor if you're building your own. You're better off starting from scratch. Believe me, I thought I could do the same thing with my photohunters when I was switching over to digital. I researched all the homebrew forums to try to find a way then I realized the building my own from scratch would be a lot easier...

Thanks for setting me straight. I thought it might be nice if I could have a digital for cheaper that way. Guess I just need go ahead and buy one because I don't know about trying to build one.

That's exactly what I thought when I was in the market for a digital. I thought I could take a shortcut but it's not gonna happen.

If you're not going to build your own, be prepared to spend some money and get a Leaf river or Cuddeback or something better. By the way, a homebrew would still be cheaper and better than both of those..

Re: 35mm Stealthcam converted to digital?

I'd build a homebrew if I knew I wouldn't have to solder anything. I can make or fix most anything as long as I don't have to solder. For some reason I have just never been good at it. Find me something I wouldn't have to solder and I would have no problem.

Oh I think I could solder wire ends together, just no soldering anything to a board.

I'll admit I haven't looked into homemade cameras very closely so there may already be something out there like what I'm talking about.

Got an old 35 mm stealth cam here that is wore out, I had considered doing the same with, but after asking the same question and the responses decided not to fool with it. I have to manually rewind the film on that cam in a dark closet every time I use it, but it does still work.

The p41 or p32 or p52 you don't have to solder anything inside the cam. All you have to do is sandwhich a shutter assembly inside the camera with the camera's ribbon cable. There are PDFs for all the camera mods. Really simple step by step directions. Then if you use a Pixcontroller board, all you have to do is solder the wire ends together. You may have to solder wires to the other end of the shutter assembly. Not to a board or a camera, but I'm pretty sure you can find shutter assemblies with wires or a stereo jack already attached. If not, they're only a few bucks and it doesn't matter if it takes you a few tries to get it.

Re: 35mm Stealthcam converted to digital?

Sounds like I need to look a little closer into this. I just might be able to do it.

Do you know what kind of batteries it would use? I would like to use rechargeables to keep costs down but I haven't seen them in anything but AA and AAA size for years. Use to be you could get them in C and D and I think even 9volt but I don't think so anymore.

Thanks again.

You can get energizer nimh rechargeables in 9 volt I know for certain. Not so sure about the c and d cells though.

Re: 35mm Stealthcam converted to digital?

The sony and olympus cameras use AAs and the board uses a 9volt. The power draw on the 9 volt is very low so you only have to replace it about every 6 months, usually longer. A rechargeable 9 volt really wouldn't be worth the money becuase it wouldn't last as long as a non rechargeable.
