whitetailkiller Posted November 25, 2004 Report Share Posted November 25, 2004 i'll have to agree with muzzyshooter....i've never hung a deer before..but i did lots of reading on the subject and everything i've read tells me no warmer than 45 degrees !!!!! anything warmer you will have to pack it with ice!!!!!! i hope things work out for ya...and let me know how it tastes!!!! Last week I shot a buck, and we didn't get it quartered that night. We left the skin on it, and I put 4 bags of ice, still in the bags, in the body cavity, and tied it closed with string. It was in the mid 60's the next day, and that night when we butchered him, almost all of the ice was still there, and the deer was nice and cold. Leaving the skin on the deer act as insulation to keep the cold from the ice in. Make sure you hang it in a garage, or somewhere out of direct sunlight. Good luck!
