OJR
Today was the dedication of the "Jack O'Connor Hunting Heritage & Education Center"! I have been to a lot of these things over the years, but this one was outstanding! All 3 of his remaining children were there along with 2 of his grandchildren. Extremely nice people. I got to meet them all. Jim Zumbo was also there and I talked to him for a bit. He had just gotten back from a 6 day bear hunt along the Salmon River. I bought Jack O'Connor's biography and all of his children signed it along with Jim Zumbo and "Buck" Buckner, friend of Jack O'Connor and contributor for his biography. Lots of people there! This is going to be a permanent place for all of Jack O'Conner's mounts and there were several of them. They include one of his "Grand Slams" of sheep! Very impressive! Several African mounts! One huge Cape Buffalo! One of his famous 270's, a 30-06, 458 Winchester and a beautiful shotgun that I would never have taken into the field. The gunmaker that built several rifles for him was there, Mr. Biesen from Spokane and I got to meet him! Congressmen, Senators and all those types were there also. If you are ever in Lewiston, ID make sure you stop by and go through this center as I am sure you will really enjoy it. It is at H***'s Gate State Park and it overlooks the Snake River. Beautiful location. It was a great "Grand Opening"!
