VermontHunter
Re: Gordon-DNF [ QUOTE ] Quit arguing with him VermontHunter, OJR has CLEARLY won this war and I agree with everything he has said about Jeff Gordon! [/ QUOTE ] NO war is ever won, until one side had conceded.... I still haven't heard any facts to back up this claim of whinning.... It's easy to title somebody something,, but it's another thing to actually produce some tangable incidents and facts to back back it up.... Orlan, it would have been easier for you just to say you didn't like him,, and that's that... By the way you never did say who your driver was,,, that was so great.... VermontHunter
Re: Gordon-DNF So Orlan,,, tell what the HUGE difference is (or was) betwwen the #24 and the #3 ??? Other than the 3 extra Championships... Have you ever watched old clips of Dale when he fisrt started out ?? I have.... and I'll tell you what Gordon was and is a far cleaner driver than Dale Sr. .... And I just watched one of the Classics where Dale Sr. was going off on the media because Petty was holding him up at the end of the race..... So what's the HUGE difference you keep referring too ???..... Boy, I LOVE these debates... It's great for the post count....
OJR
Re: Gordon-DNF VH, what does it take to get through to you??? I can't stand Gordon's nasal whinning when he talks!!!!! J. Johnson has about the same nasal whine but not as bad! I am not comparing them to anyone, just can't stand either one of them!! Do you understand that?? If not, go back in your hole!! LMBO!! I guess I need to paint a picture of someone talking when they are holding their nose and whine while they do it!!!
VermontHunter
Re: Gordon-DNF A picture !! now there's a novel idea.... Just too bad you wouldn't know how to post it.... If you agree the guy can drive a racecar,,, then whats so wrong with him driving a Chevy ?? What you would rather have him winning for the compition ??... Of course you know Im going to beat you over the head with this thing,,,,, just to get your blood pressure up,,,, you fly boys just can't take the stress.... VermontHunter
Re: Gordon-DNF [ QUOTE ] but he never, ever came close to filleng Dale Earnhardts shoes! [/ QUOTE ] Never claimed he did,, or even could..... I don't think there's anyone driving today that could even come close.... When it came to driving a stock car Big E was the man... What I'm saying is that,,, Dale Sr. himself has been known to whine to the media about other drivers conduct on the track,,, and lets face it he didn't get the nick name of INTIMADATOR by what you would call a clean driving style.... So why is it when Gordon makes a few off hand remarks to the media in the heat of the moment he's a whinner ??? This is the difference I'm referring to... All I can say, is call Gordon what you will,, but he has the Championships and the wins to prove what kind of driver he is/was... I still say he has what it takes to win races,,, maybe not Championships,,, but enough skill to win a race, and compete with anyone driving today... Mechanical issue's and setups are on his crew, not him,,,, but everything seems to reflect on the driver... Kind of like football,, if a team looses it all seems to get blamed on the quarterback.... A Dale Sr.,Gordon is not,, but then again who is .. A Looser, Gordon is not ,, name another driver, driving today with his wins and Championship record. A whinner,,,I don't think so....name one driver today that hasn't spouted off to the media or other source about something they disliked about a race or another driver.... These are the points I was trying to make,,,,, And besides that,, I just love to keep that flyboy OJR, on his toe's....
Nick
Re: Gordon-DNF OMG, Dont even TRY to compare Jeff Gordon to Dale SR. They are two totally different personalities and two totally different drivers. Main thing is SR didnt try to act cool and be in the fame. He wasnt walking down the red carpet with his girlfriend and vacationing in different countries in between races, he was focused on the next race. I think if you look at Jimmy Johnson over the last two seasons and look at Jeff, you can kinda tell that Jeffs mind isnt on the track anymore. They both drive cars made the same way by the same people with the same parts. I think Jeff wouldnt have been as successful as he has been in the past if he would have drove for somebody else. Put any driver focused on the race thats raced before in that 24 car and i guarantee you they will take it to victory lane. Jeffs mind just isnt into racing anymore and thats all there is to it. Just ask DW or Rusty Wallace....I just read an article about them criticizing Jeff for the reasons stated above. One other thing.....Dale SR wasnt a "Rainbow Warrior" like Jeffy is. Thats just wrong if you ask me!
VermontHunter
Re: Gordon-DNF Dang Nick,, did you read my response... I clearley stated I was trying to compare Jeff to Dale Sr... I was saying his attitude in front of the camera is NO different than any other driver out their driving or has driven..... But I will say this ,,, you are totally wrong about Jeffs driving ablility.... You pick the worst 2 in my opinion to try to even criticize Jeff,,, Look at their driving records compared to his,,, say nothing about thier off track activities.... Same mechanical structure as far as the cars go,, but totally different crews that work on them..... so lets not usr that comparasion.... As for Dale's lime light.... Hhmm, funny I watched the same show about him that millions did, just after he died,, must be you missed that one UH ... Jeff has won races with different teams,,, may not have been NASCAR but it was still racing and Ithink his background will match up with most anybodys driving today... Dale Sr. was a media hog,, and there's NO denying that.... was it his choice ?? probably not.. The media is what gets you and your team noteriety in NASCAR... Say what you will about Jeff,, but like I said his wins and Championships talk for themselves.... [ QUOTE ] Jeffs mind just isnt into racing anymore and thats all there is to it. [/ QUOTE ] That statement right there is probably the most accurate thing you said in your whole response... And as for the Rainbow Warrior statement .... Jeff wasn't one either.... That was his great pit crew he had, a few years back..
Nick
Re: Gordon-DNF I never said a WORD about Jeffs driving ability........If he would focus more on his racing than the fame and fortune, then he could be a champion again. If hes gonna be a half-asked driver, then he doesnt desserve to be in the circuit anymore in my opinion. You never heard of Dale vacationing or being on Regis and Kelly, or walking down the red carpet to awards ceremonies that have nothing to do with racing during the racing season........But like I also said, put a totally focused Jeff Gordon in Derrick Copes car and a totally focused Derrick Cope in Jeff Gordons car and I'll bet money that Derrick Cope beats Jeff Gordon in 90% of the races. Jeff has driven a Hendrick car ever since he entered the circuit so weve never seen what he could do with the equipment all the other drivers are running. Racing anymore isnt really about how good or bad of a driver you are, its more about your set up, who builds your cars, and how bad you really want to win and put the time into the car to win. So to be honest, nobody is ever going to know how good or bad of a driver somebody really is in my honest opinion........All we will ever know is who really wants to win. VermontHunter
Re: Gordon-DNF I can agree with that totally Nick... FOCUS is a key point to anyone's success,, this is why I think Dale Jr, is doing so well this season, he is more focused that he ever was,,, now that the media has left him alone, and let him concentrate on racing.... tedicast
Re: Gordon-DNF [ QUOTE ] PLEASE enlighten me as to why Jr. is so great.... [/ QUOTE ] Thats easy Luke...E-A-R-N-H-A-R-D-T!!! that says it all. While Jr. is by far my favorite driver, I have to admit. I'm not sure he will ever win a championship driving for DEI. I would love for it to happen, but it seems there is just not the leadership, or stability in that orginazation to win the whole deal. Plus, as long as JR is driving for DEI, I think he will be lacking the focus needed to be a champion, same as Gordon. This is in no way meant to slam Jr., as he is by far my favorite driver. It is just my realistic thoughts.
VermontHunter
Re: Gordon-DNF I'll say John,,, Jr. is way more focused than Gordon this season so far.... Gordon and his team had better start buckling down and getting things done or they are going to be left in the dust in a hurry... Teams and drivers of today are way too competative to fall behind against...
AdvantageTimberLou
Re: Gordon-DNF Like I said in the past, not a huge Gordon fan but you cannot deny the guy can drive a stock car. Not sure if people have seen him in person but he's pretty small and to muscle a car like he does is pretty impressive. 4 championships and lots of wins, the guy has my respect and alot of those wins came against Sr. so he has raced against some of the best. Until Jr. gets a championship, he falls into the same boat as Newman, Johnson, Biffle, Martin, etc. they can win from time to time but can't seal the deal and win the top prize, the championship! Like him or hate him the guy won 4 of them and still has a few more in him before he calls it a career!
snapper
Re: Gordon-DNF Everyone has been in a situation that when they heard someone speak or yell...they are just given respect for the way they say it. You know...the guy at work when he spouts off to the boss...everyone is like...."oooooooohhh, yeah, tell him how it is". Then you got the other fellow who just don't get that respect because of the way they say it....its just down right funny when they are upset. Everyones thinking "geeeezzzzzz don't cry" or just turn and laugh and talk about how he made a butt out of himself. My opinion...thats Dale Sr. and Jeff! He didn't only get the name "Intimadator" by his driving style...when he spoke, people listened! Jeff with his little squeaky voice...well...is just plain funny!! Sorry, thats how I see it! Jeff can drive...I take nothing away from him in that area.
AdvantageTimberLou
Re: Gordon-DNF Here is how I see, I was a big time Sr. fan but you have to remember this. Wonderboy (boy wonder) won the Brickyard before Sr. did. (Sr. gave him that nick name) Wonderboy also won the Daytona 500 before Sr. did and in the near future will pass him on the wins list. Both are (2) different types of drivers and both have opposite personalities away from the track but both have been able to "seal the deal" and win championships and big races and draw millions to their fan base. Both are responsible for where the sport is and where it is going. Dale brought in the blue collar workers, Jeff is bringing Hollywood type upper echelon type people to the sport. Both types of fan are needed to make the sport grow!! I respect both for what they have done and for what Jeff will do in the future.
