Covehnter
Thought it'd be cool to know how many of you keep logs on the deer you kill? I have a log that i write down each deer i kill, what is was, where it was taken, date and weapon. Kinda neat to look back through the log remember each situation and the deer itself. Guest BOWHUNTIN247
Re: Keeping a Log I like to do that all during the summer and when I am out in the woods during the off season especially so I can keep track of the deer's travel. Guest buckhunter44
Re: Keeping a Log I have been doing that with me, my dad, and my brothers hunts and kills over the last 9 years. I keep track of everything from yotes to deer, but no small game like rabbits and game birds.
wtnhunt
Re: Keeping a Log Used to keep a log or journal of sorts of every hunt, not just the deer I killed. Kept up with it really well for the first couple years, and have not kept up with it the past cople years quite so well. Still have the journal in word on our old computer, but have not loaded it on this new machine yet. In it I would keep the date, time I hunted, where I hunted, the weather conditions, how/what type of calling I used, what I saw, how they responded if calling was used, and anything else I noted about the hunt that I wanted to be able to use to refresh my memory at a later date in time. arrow32
Re: Keeping a Log I just do it on the deer i kill. I try to write down when and where i saw deer while hunting also and if and what they were eating.
slughunter
Re: Keeping a Log I keep a detailed log on all my hunts in my own notebook and then a log on the forums in the users journal. I also think that pictures are really cool for journals. -shane
Guest ILclimber
Re: Keeping a Log Great Post! I couldn't agree with you more! I started doing that this year on our scouting trips, writing down different sets of information. I have also kept a log of all the deer I have harvested since I started hunting. It's cool to see where your more hot spots are over the years.

DSGB
Re: Keeping a Log I do exactly as you. I write down the date, what it was, where I was hunting, who I was with, weapon used, and time of day. I recently put all the data into an Access database, but still write it down in my notebook. I found it hard to make myself write in a journal. I love to read what I wrote way back when but I just cannot commit to the paper. ilhnter
Re: Keeping a Log I just keep a photo album of all the deer I kill. All the photo's are in order from my first deer on. On the back of the picture I always write the kill date, weapon, and where killed.

Ranger [/ QUOTE ] Really keeping a log in word is pretty simple, does not require any handwriting, for me it was more a matter of trying to sit down for a few minutes and devote the time to making entries. Am going to try to get back to keeping up with mine better this year.
Covehnter
Re: Keeping a Log I more or less just do it to keep up w/ my kills. Would be in interesting to start an entire journal though to record each outing.
wtnhunt
Re: Keeping a Log Kind of liked the idea of keeping a record of movement and patterns during the season and off season too. Being that my memory is not as good as it once was, helps with figuring out what the deer might be doing if you can look back and see similarities that you might not otherwise remember. Like I said, I am going to try better to keep up with my word journal this year and look back over my previous entries.
Chrud
Re: Keeping a Log See Chrud's Journal in the User's Daily Journal Room. If I harvest an animal, the story I write is the same one I save on my computer and print off.
Guest huntwriter
Re: Keeping a Log I keep a scouting journal which includes notes in a notepad, different markers on a topo-map and photographes. This journal is my "scouting memory trigger". Other than that I also keep a small journal of my outdoor experiences where I write down notes of interesting things or people while out in the woods and that could be used in an article. Often I use a small voice recorder too for this purpose, the gadget is smaller than a cell phone and lets me download onto the computer and tranforms the spoken word into written words.
