BowtechTurkeyHunter Posted July 21, 2006 Report Share Posted July 21, 2006 Re: Home Theater Systems I would recomend the Sony surround system if you dont want anything to fancy for the money you get small cube speakers sorta like bose .... makes the wife happy ... you also get a sub woofer ... can go any place ... comes with all the ires you need ... the main unit is a 5 disc DVD player/ CD player alos has a AM/FM tuner in it ... and it has 2 Audio video inputs for other devices such as satellite reciever or a VCR ... the price for something like that would run you about 400/450 bucks ... no they sell cheaper ones but the sound isnt nearly as good as the Sony ... you can check em out at Best Buy .... the best part is you can install it yourself ... its all color coded and everything ... I think it was about $350 and it sure is great to watch movies and listen to music. If you get one make sure it has plenty of inputs for whatever you already have (tv,vcr, ect) The dvd changer is useless to me. They have some systems that are on the lower end of the price scale, that sound very good. Thats what we have in our living room. They might not compare with some of the big dollar high end systems, but we are more then happy with it. We bough ours through Crutchfield. I think I payed around $175 at Sam's. Honestly we only use it on good movies such as Twister. We dont use it nearly as often as I figured we would! However, used on a good movie its worth every penny! If you have a Sam's card and there is a store nearby, go look before you buy. We got a really good deal. Here is one of the cheaper prices I heard of but if you google and froogle, you might find it cheaper: http://www.shentech.com/ht6900dp.html It comes with a powered sub, 6 speakers, 6.1 surround sound, a five carousel DVD player, receiver, and associated remotes. 1,000 watts of power and a LOT of features for the money....like nighttime mode so that explosions and other loud sounds don't blast you out and wake the kids. The sound is crisp and superb and the quality is Sony. All for around $350-385 and that is not for a cut rate system. Believe me, I looked around and if you google the system name and review, you will see the great reviews. I couldn't be happier. Bose is great but IMHO unless you have a true home theatre sound room with the soundproofing, etc. it isn't worth the extra $1,000 to me. I have a wife, two kids, dishwashers and clotheswashers going and I just need more power. You can budget about another $150 to $200 to get good quality speaker wires (monster) and cables (monster) for the system....but that goes for all the systems and isn't specific to this brand.
