Mechanics: Computer Readout Question

Im trying to get this Kia back up and running so I can trade it in... tongue.gifgrin.gif

My mechanic hooked it up to his computer and got the following readout....

"Sensor A"

"Bank One"

It also stated that it was infact a cam shaft sensor. He says there is three potential sensors that it could be. They are just over $100 each and I need one.

I hate to spend $300 trying to fix the problem when I only need to spend $100. Anyone have any insight to how I can track down which sensor this is for the readout?

Thanks in advance....

Re: Mechanics: Computer Readout Question

Ive been diggin on the net and from what I see the Kia only has one Camshaft Sensor. The other is suppose to be a crankshaft sensor?!?!

Is that right? This thing has duel overhead cams...

If that is the case I can get the one easily!

Re: Mechanics: Computer Readout Question

No, its a 4-cy.

Shaun, the computer read Sensor A Bank 1 but on the same screen read "Cam Sensor." ??????

What I did find out is that the Kia only has one cam position sensor. The other is the Crank Sensor. If it is in fact the cam sensor it will be pretty easy to change.

Do you have to re-time these afterwards or is a cam position sensor more of a plug and play?

Man Shaun, you have me worried now. I though we had this tracked down but if what youre saying is right the O2 could be out and id be buying the wrong Sensor!

I wonder why the computer would read out Cam Sensor???

What I did read is that typically the Bank 1 is the front of a motor but Kia Consideres Bank 1 the back of the motor.... I dont know if that makes a difference or not?

Now I really have to figure something out. I was going to get the Cam Position Sensor from Autozone this evening. They were going to order it for me. If its the O2 (which I think is actually the heated) its going to get expensive!

Now what........

Re: Mechanics: Computer Readout Question

I believe Shawn is right about the O2 sensor. I'd bet that the software in your scantool isn't a "perfect match" with the Kia diagnostics. Do yourself a favor and unplug the O2 sensor connector closest to the cyl. head with the scan tool connected and see if the fault code changes or gives you an additional code. If it remains the same code then ya got er whipped! wink.gif
