Griz
Not far from my house there is a big pond. Every winter it is filled with ducks and geese. We also have several Bald eagles that hang out here also. Today when I was coming home for lunch I got to watch a bald eagle drive down and snatch a duck off the pond.... Man I wish I had a camera with me at that time. I would of loved to had a picture of that. It was an amazing sight to see...... Just thought I would share that with yall.... huntinsonovagun
Re: What an awesome sight.......... WOW!! That would have been awesome!! Guess that explains why all those snow geese flew off last winter when we were waiting on the to make their way towards us for a shot.....there was a dang bald eagle circling them. On another note.....I almost got eaten by a freakin' huge bird on Saturday.....sitting in my stand before light with my beanie on and evidently some bird wanted to make it a meal, well for somereason I look to my left (didn't hear anything, just looked over there. ) and then I feel a "hand" on my shoulder.....scared to dog crap out of me!!! Thought it was a squirrel at first (not wanting him to get my "acorns") but then it flew out in front of me. That'll get the blood a'pumpin'!! fisherguy
Re: What an awesome sight.......... It is an awesome sight. THis august i was sittin on my deck lookin gover the lake and saw an eagle take a mallard out of the air. The mallard was swimming trying to get to shore but couldn't fly, then a juvenile eagle shows up and the aduly starts demonstrating how to hit a duck. FInally when it got to shore teh juvenile went down and finished it off. Poor duck musta been so panicked. Last year one took down a giant canada goose, i didn't think they would do that, but it seemed easy.

Tominator
Re: What an awesome sight.......... awesome griz! i've seen hawks go at squirrels and chipmunks, in fact i saw a Cooper's hawk go after a chipmunk 2 weeks ago. one day while duck hunting, my buddy and i were about to quit, so we were behind 2 trees putting up our guns. as we turned to go get the deeks, there was a bald eagle doing a final approach on one of the duck decoys! wish i could've had a picture of the eyes on that eagle when he recognized those were deeks and the hunters were real. DSGB
Re: What an awesome sight.......... That's cool! I watched a Red-tailed hawk catch a bird in a field last weekend. It musta rained feathers for five minutes. That's when I noticed the wind had changed directions.

Jeramie
Re: What an awesome sight.......... Abooot ten years ago my brother and I were walking from pond to pond, fishing. The one we were heading to was loaded with Mallards. We were watching two bald eagles circling above the pond. One did a dive, the other landed on a nearby tree. The one eagle kept diving but the ducks would all go under. It was awesome. The eagle never caught anything but it was still amazing to say the least. The was the first year any of us had ever seen an eagle out there. Now they are pretty common. Ive even seen some this year.
Palssonater
Re: What an awesome sight.......... I've seen the eagle take a mallard out of thin air. I have also seen two Bald Eagles in a death grasp, fighting in the air, twirling towards the water. They broke off at the last second and went up and did it again. That was truly amazing....they were fighting for a minnow that came off a hook while casting! All that over a minnow??? I guess there was some bad blood between the two! And I saw(that same fishing trip) and eagle smoke a seagull that was trying to pick up a floating walleye! Seagull died and the eagle took the fish! Shaun_300
Re: What an awesome sight.......... yea my uncle saw a red-tailed hawk pick a crow off of the lawn at my grandmas place, he said it swooped down picked it up then took it up to a tree and plucked out the feathers one my one, unbelievable, my uncle is a big outdoors man and thought that the hawk would just demolish the crow, but it just took his time pluckin the feathers out of it. LOL. And one time while fishing near Kiosk Lake in Algonquin Park, an Osprey picked off a live specled trout. He spotted it, then divebombed from about 200 feet and SPLASH, sure enough he got it LOL
Guest ILBrad
Re: What an awesome sight.......... A guy I hunt with, was in our duck blind up near Merrill Wisconsin, and shot a duck that coasted down to the end of the marsh. When he was getting out of the blind to go get it a wolf came out of the woods, grabbed the duck and was back in the woods before anyone could even say, "Hey a wolf!" We kinda thought there were some wolves around, a couple people had seen them (not me), we have seen tracks on some of the field roads, but this pretty much cinched it for everyone. Jeramie
Re: What an awesome sight.......... Hey Dale, this pic was taken about 80 yards from the same pond the eagles were bombing 10 years ago! They love that pond for some reason. It really puts out a lot of frogs and such too. That probably has a ton to do with it. BTW, I took it this year.
