Shaun_300
Re: Ethical Question???? That's a tough one, IMO, if I hired someone and specifically told them what you told them, and I caught him violating that, I'd fire him and find someone more trustworthy. stevebeilgard
Re: Ethical Question???? as one who realizes help is very hard to find, i'd talk with him first. tell him the rules again, and maybe even why the rules are in place. tell him you told him once, and this is twice. stay away, or look for another job. he's violated your trust once, can you trust him to not do it again. BowJoe
Re: Ethical Question???? [ QUOTE ] IMO, if it his first offense the talk to him about it. Forgive him of the incident but make it clear that if it happens again you will have to terminate him. [/ QUOTE ] Exactly my sentiments. To the T. Forgive and forget but with a promise that if you find out he goes against the rules again he will be fired on the spot and the police will be called to search him for theft. IF that doesn't scare him straight then it might scare him not to return to work. Either way you win and were fair about it.
dg
Re: Ethical Question???? [ QUOTE ] When I first came, he and I had a good little conversation about what I expect about him and my office. Mainly that what is in, on and around my desk is my space and private. [/ QUOTE ] I'm not condoning what he did. Your "little conversation" made things more intriguing. But YOU have a responsibilty to secure private info. It's called confidentiality. LOCK IT UP! [/ QUOTE ] I think this should be delt with forgiveness, but also with consiquence. God teaches us through the word that He loves us yet lets us live with the consiquences of our sins ie. David loosing his family after his sins with Bathsheba. I would sit him down and explain that you have forgiven him, but one of the consiquences of his indiscression was the loss of your trust and access to your office. I would make him know that he has an opportunity to win your trust back, but it will not be easy. I would also write up a covanent of trust detailing his offence, the consiquences and what he must do. I would have him, yourself and 2 of your decons sign it together. That is a biblical way to handle it. You could also have him stoned to death, but I can't really recomend that one.

MikeB
Re: Ethical Question???? Well said John!!! The church is about love and forgiveness, however trust is also important. Give him another chance with strict rules.
Buckslayer
Re: Ethical Question???? [ QUOTE ] I would find another cleaner. If he did something like that, when you just step out for a second or two, what does he do when your not there? [/ QUOTE ] I tend to agree. I'm all about forgiveness, but something tells me this isn't the place for it. Trusting him when you're not there is more important than when you're only gone from your desk for 2 minutes... and it seems you can't do that now.
