Jeramie Posted August 28, 2006 Report Share Posted August 28, 2006 Due to the fact I’ve received some ribbing about my KIA (which I later find out means Killed in Action) I figured id throw out an update for everyone. I ordered the Cam Shaft Position Sensor and replaced it. That helped but the car wouldn’t run correctly still. I finally talked to another Local Mechanic that really seemed to have his head on straight. I drove the car over last night before Church. He told me it would be a couple of days before he could look at it but curiosity got the best of him and I received a phone call after church was over. He reset the computer and the light went off, the car is now running. The only problem is he detected tons of vibration in the motor. He then asked if I had the timing belt replaced…… Not what I wanted to hear. I had plans on trading the car because the belt has to be changed at 60k and then every 30k after that according to a rep at KIA. He then quoted me roughly $700 to change it (which is still better then $1300 at KIA). There are two belts, the primary timing belt and another linkage belt. He thinks the linkage belt is already broken. If the timing belt breaks it gets really, really expensive. Sadly I have to choke down and spend the money. As much as I dislike KIA now I will drive this car for roughly 20K more miles and then trade it in. Ill have to try and get some money back out of the $700 I have to throw down….. This mechanic is really up and up on cars, especially foreign. He told me that KIA doesn’t honor much of anything they advertise. His son bought one and it fought it tooth and nail to keep it running. When it came time his son tried to trade it back to KIA for another used car and KIA didn’t want it back. Honestly we had a lengthy conversation about his dealings with the company and vehicles. I wish I would have talked with him sooner. I wont go into detail but it wasn’t good…. Moral of the story, do some serious research on any car before stepping out of your comfort zone……. Oh, and don’t buy a KIA. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Usually a good wrap with a hammer shocks them loose. Make sure there are not any little bolts holding them to the hub! The rotors by the way are nice and pricey too!!
