Guest timpat
I was walking to my deer stand today and a grey fox was on my trail abut 20 yrds in front of me. I raised my .270 with Speer 130 grain Grand Slam bullets, Killed many deer with these shells. I put the cross hairs alittle high on his front shoulder and squezzed the trigger. I seen the bullet go through him and he started running in circles. I was like "ok" he will fall over but then he shoot through the woods yipping and throwing a fit. I was amazed he didnt fall down where i shot him at. I jus wanted to share that since it was my first fox and i was happy but mad i made him suffer
sureshot
Re: Mighty Fox I have shot lots of fox and coyotes both with the high power rifle and lots of times especially on fox with the thin skins the bullet will not expand at close distances if ti does not hit a bone! Last fall when deer huntign I seen a fox layign in the field abotu 100 yards, I ptu the crosshairs on his head so iw oudl not blow the main hide but eh stood up so i went right behind the front legs and let rip, the fox jumped and took off I was amazed he did not drop and chambered another round gettign on him for a second shot and just as I was abotu to pull he jumped in the air and dropped! I found only a small hole, in and a small hole out, just missed the ribs on both sides and the thicker jacket big game bullets did not expand!! BTW congrats on thre fox, Only red fox up here would love to get a grey soem day!!
Guest shedhunter
Re: Mighty Fox Yesterday evening while driving and looking for deer I saw a fox so I popped 3 shots at him but never got him. It was the first time I shot at a fox. Im hoping to shoot a coyote tomorrow or on Saturday so I can learn how to skin them out. Sureshot, is a .270 too much on a coyote? sureshot
Re: Mighty Fox It is quite a bit for coyote, I ahve shot lots with them and bigger but there is usually quit a bit of sewing and if you are not sure how to do it properly the hides are nearly worthless!![this year anyway, damage will not be able to sold]What part of sask are you in again?? I was just goin to sya if you ever want a one on one with skinning and scraping I am in Assiniboia and I would be more then happy to let you watch!!
