mag1 Posted September 4, 2006 Report Share Posted September 4, 2006 I've been shooting Carbon Express CX300 arrows for the last 2 years. I've never paper tuned, and this past week, a buddy introduced me to paper tuning. We tuned it in, but with Broadheads, I'm shooting 6" lower than the field points. It dosn't matter which broadhead, we tried 5 different ones. If I go to an alluminum arrow, they fly great, field points and broadheads are the same. With the carbons, I would get some indication on the paper that it just wasnt right, alum. was perfect. I'm shooting a Hoyt Magnatech, at 70#, with 30" arrows. If I were to go up to the CX400, would that take care of the problem? On CX websight,they have a calculator that indicates that I should be shooting an arrow for 80#'s, which in the 30" would put me into the CX400. I could go to alum, but would prefer the carbon. Any input? I was shooting Blazer vanes, grouped nice. If anybody is having problems with Blazers, check your rest to make sure you don't have fletch interferace. When I went to a 31" shaft I had to go up to a 5000 (65/80). Don't know if going up in spine strength will help your grouping or not. Seems to me if you were underspined, your arrows would hit in different spots all the time no matter what head was on it. It may be the size/diameter of the shafts, alluminum-vs-carbon that is causeing the difference. I don't really know for sure since I've never had this problem, but Im' sure someone in here has. Field points won't show it as much, but when you slap a broadhead on there the effect becomes VERY CLEAR. As mentioned above, with the 30" draw length and 70# weight, I would definitely bump up to the stiffer spined arrow. If you don't want to do that, switch to a lighter weight broadhead because lowering the tip weight stiffens spine. If you are shooting 100 grain heads now, try and 85 or an 80, maybe even a 75 provided you don't drop down below 5 grains per pound of arrow weight. Shooting an underspined arrow is similar to shooting a wet noodle out of your bow, so yes, it will definitely hurt your accuracy. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

JKAPP01 Posted September 5, 2006 Report Share Posted September 5, 2006 Re: ? on Arrow Spine (Carbon) a good friend of mine that is an excellent bowhunter and archer for that matter........helped me get my bow 100% tuned this weekend........i shot a group of 5 arrows at 20 yards shooting at the same spot......the 6th arrow i shot was a naked arrow.........what we were looking for was that the arrow was entering at the same angle (straight in) as the previous .......it took one little tweak of the rest to have my broadheads and field points flying dead on up to 40 yards..... I went out at lunch, bought 3 CX400's, going to fletch them up tonight, and try them out tommorrow. If they work, I'll get 3 more. I allready have a taker for my CX300 hutners. he shoots at 60#.
