SRTMO
What time of is is it best to use salt licks or blocks? I recall hearing it's best to use them during a certain time of the year. To add to the equation, I hunt on a horse farm where blocks are available all year round. I want to try that Block Topper stuff.
Tetro
Re: Salt Licks This is my first year setting some out. I've got mine set up about 25 yards from one of my stands. I put it out back in mid August, its getting a little action. I've also got my trail camera set up near it. I'm hoping it lures in a nice buck, if not for shooting but at least for the picture taking. p.s. this was my 100th post. Hooray for me!!! ousoonerfan22
Re: Salt Licks The salt licks were getting hammered in august and I'm seeing a few tracks around them now.I have better luck with mixing loose salt in the soil but the trophy rock works well also. Bowhntr
Re: Salt Licks Salt licks tend to get the heaviest activity from late spring into summer then begin to fall off around mid August. My licks got hammered in June in July and now there is very little activity on them.

wtnhunt
Re: Salt Licks Best to start a mineral site in the spring and continue on into the summer. They will see some activity on into the fall and winter, but activity will drop off some. As for the spread of cwd, personally I feel individual states have the power and are better able to determine where spread of the disease than someone assuming it is everywhere and is being spread by those who are using supplements and minerals. If it is legal in your state and there have been no cwd cases, the chance of an animal infecting another is probably pretty minimal and quite possibly non existant.
