Jeramie
My wife has managed the local vet clinic for over 8-years. Several years back a guy brought in his boxer that had been hit by a car. He didn't want to pay to rebuild a hip so he wanted him put down. David the vet will NOT put down an animal unless its really a necessity. Ive seen the man stay up all night to save a kitten. Anyway, he rebuilt the hip and made the dog the clinic mascot. He would go home with the girls off and on and even lived with them a couple of times. Eventually one of the girls quit and took the dog home with her. She eventually got sick of the dog and gave it to her sister. Her sister got sick of the dog and gave it to another guy. The guys insane pack of dogs attacked the boxer (who is gentle and use to other dogs because of the clinic). He didn't fight back and got chewed up pretty bad. So again he ended up at the clinic. My wife shaved off hair in several place and cleaned his wounds. He is getting pretty old, in fact his face is white. My wife called me yesterday to talk to me about Boxer. She didn't tell me her plan but I already knew. When she pulled in the yard I was out watering the horses. I knew what she had and as soon as she opened the van door boxer about ran me over. He was excited to be out of his dog run. We put him in the yard last night and introduced the schnauzers to him. At first they weren't to happy but within an hour or so everything was OK. I left for work this morning and Boxer was on the front porch on his new blanket. He's already made himself at home... Oh well, whats another dog in what basically looks like a petting zoo? AdvantageTimberLou
Re: Got a new Kid (dog) Jeramie, Boxers are awesome dogs, there are Boxer rescues too that take in boxers that are no longer wanted or the owners can't be found. Just wait till that boxer finds your bed, he will like that even more! They don't care who is in the way, move over, I want in!! Glad to see you take him in and him not put down, if your wife ever gets another boxer in there are rescues out there to help find these dogs homes! Glad to see the dog spend his final years with a loving family, a fitting end to a chaotic life he has lived! Post pictures of him if you can! Fullfan
Re: Got a new Kid (dog) Glad to hear that he now has a place to call home. I am kind of partial to Boxers myself. I have had 6 of them . [image][/image]
AdvantageTimberLou
Re: Got a new Kid (dog) Good looking dog there, we have had 3 so far, lost one at an early age to cancer. That is the only downside to the breed, they are prone to tumors and cancer. They have that tuff look but are teddy bears at heart!! Gotta love the slobber too!! AdvantageTimberLou
Re: Got a new Kid (dog) Here is our old boxer, Winston, he is the one on the left, Angel who we still have was just a pup, we lost Mr. Winston to cancer at 2 1/2 years of age. I remember that day still, I came back from turkey hunting and got the news that they had to put him down. He wasn't eating right and the vet did surgery on him to see what could be wrong and they found cancer. Hardest decision my wife ever had to do!! Winston came from Wisconsin and Angel came from Colorado. Our newest Chase came from Alberta. Our dogs have seen more of this country than I have! Still gotta love them!! Most of our inside windows of our house are at dog level and have some slobber on them as a result!

AdvantageTimberLou
Re: Got a new Kid (dog) Jeramie, If my wife heard of a boxer being put down instead of being save my house would be a petting zoo too! She loves that breed and hates to see any animal put down. Just the other day she had me stop on the side of the road because she seen a cat with a collar and was going to save it, the cat took off but that is what my wife is like, loves animals!!
