New WSM Cartridge

I see in Shooting Times magazine that Winchester is bringing out the 325 WSM this year. It's basically a WSM case necked up to 8mm (.323"). Oh well, I was hoping they would do a .338 WSM. There will be 3 initial bullet choices for factory loads. The 180 gr Ballistic Silvertip, 200 gr. Accubond, and the 220 gr. Power-Point.

i think i heard that the ballistics are going to be similar of the .338 Win Mag. Am i correct on that one AJ??

Yep, they are close. Unfortunately, the 8mm bullet selection is not near that of the .338, but I suppose there is an acceptable bullet for most applications. The theory behind the 8mm selection is to make a cartridge that will shoot 200+ grain bullets at decent velocities for a flat trajectory. The 8mm bullets will be thinner and longer than a .338" so the ballistic coefficient and sectional density will be higher.

Yet another answer to a question no one asked.

Looks like one more attempt to whip that dead horse 8mm LOL grin.gif Which for some reason just does not seem to catch on here in the states.

All of these new short mags may be beneficial for someone who still needs a rifle for larger & or smaller game. But for myself, I am covered from groundhogs to elephants with what I have. And I see no reason to replace my 338 or 35 whelens with a new 8 mm short mag. And I do not have a great desire to supplament what I have by adding any of the short mags.

Re: New WSM Cartridge

Yeah, me too. I have a K98 that clover leafs the X ring at 100 yards. Pretty amazing considering it's a 64 year old rifle. I like the 8 mil personally. Don't know if I'll go after the WSM, though.
