jcs3344
Friday night one of my buddys killed a 3 pointer behind his house. The only part of the deer that was brown was the legs and the top of the back and some of the face.. and the rest was WHITE... in breed is the only thing i can think of ..... Sat. mourning a buddy of mine that i hunt with told me he shoot a nice doe. When we find the deer it was a buck. Its horns were only about 1 inch long. Your thinking it must be a yearing or young buck. Your wrong this deer was about 4 and 1/2 or 5 1/2 years old and weighted about 170. This is the second deer killed like this on this piece of land. Last year another guy killed a 210 pound buck that had the same size horns...... Bad genetics ? Either way this was both guys first deer with a bow.. they were really excited
struttinhoyt
Re: 2 weird deer killed this weekend (PICS) that one with the white on it is a "pie bald" deer..... something to do with genetics and inbreeding...... maybe some others will chime in here..... Guest Lever_gun450
Re: 2 weird deer killed this weekend (PICS) I think the second deeer there is a piebald..not too sure on the spelling.. Not sure what causes it? just a random occurence I guess? I've seen a few does with horns on 'em..wierd. Congrats to the two of them on "unique" first bowkills. They'll remeber them forever. ~Dave
Guest goBIG13
Re: 2 weird deer killed this weekend (PICS) Have seen a doe like this a few years ago and a Conservation Officer told me it was do to genetics.

WvBowhunterKE
Re: 2 weird deer killed this weekend (PICS) yeah i think it is in the genetics...i guess the same rules wood apply for the albino stuff...You dont want them around. M00N
Re: 2 weird deer killed this weekend (PICS) Congratulations! Some awesome and unusual deer shot. The second deer looks to be a Piebald. Their really bad genetics to have in a herd because they bring along a set of bone/organ deformities with the gene that causes them to be Piebald. Albino deer on the other hand, apart from being easily spotted in the woods and sensitive to the light, they don't carry the poor genetics that cause bone/organ deformities like the Piebald deer do. So, shooting the Piebalds is good for the herd. Albinos is the hunter's choice keeping them in the herd doesn't do any drastic damage to the health of the herd just leaves you with some easy to see deer. HitRmisS
Re: 2 weird deer killed this weekend (PICS) definately a piebald, i had one last year hanging around one of my stands that was a young buck so i let him walk. I wanted to see if he put on a better set of antlers this year

Doc
Re: 2 weird deer killed this weekend (PICS) I have read that all deer carry the genetics for white color. It is a recessive gene that usually is brought out by excessive in-breeding. Here in NY we have a herd of white deer in an enclosed compound that used to be a military ammunition depot. These are not albinos, but merely a group of deer that are all white, (no pink eyes and such). As far as them carrying other harmful genetic defects, I have not heard that one. My son shot a piebald deer that had a lot of white on him, and it was sporting what I would call a very impressive rack. It made a pretty unique wall mount. wtnhunt
Re: 2 weird deer killed this weekend (PICS) Congrats to the hunters on their first bowkills. Definitely a piebald. The other one maybe just some sort of freak genetics.
Tominator
Re: 2 weird deer killed this weekend (PICS) The one deer is a piebald. It just had the genetic pattern to produce more white than most deer, no big deal there, except that they're kind of rare. As far as the small racks, I'd guess you're lacking in one or more of the 3 areas that make big racks--age, genetics, and nutrition.
Guest Broncho10
Re: 2 weird deer killed this weekend (PICS) The piebald is very rare, and should be considered a trophy. There aren't too many paople that can say they have scene, much less harvested, a peibald deer in the wild. Congrats to them both!!
VtBowhunter
Re: 2 weird deer killed this weekend (PICS) Yep, it's a piebald and they need to go to preserve a healthy herd. Pure albinos will live a long while, but they eventually go blind and suffer a horrible death by starvation or predators. The other buck looks a bit 2 small to be as old as you stated, but that could be due to bad genetics or malnutrition which would also cause the small rack. M00N
Re: 2 weird deer killed this weekend (PICS) Here's a quote from the Virginia's Game Wildlife about Piebald Genetics. [ QUOTE ] ...The piebald condition is an inherited genetic trait. The piebald anomaly ranges from a very slight amount of white hair to almost totally white coats. Unlike true albinos, piebald deer have brown eyes and black hooves. The piebald condition is frequently associated with other harmful physical conditions, including skeletal deformities (e.g., dorsal bowing of the nose, short/deformed legs, curved spine, short lower mandible, etc.) and internal organ deformities. Piebald deer are rare... [/ QUOTE ] And here's what they had to say about Albinos compared to the Piebald genetics. [ QUOTE ] The other kind of white deer are true albinos. Unlike piebald deer, these deer are normal except for lacking the gene(s) for color. True albinos have pink eyes and white hooves. These deer are rare... [/ QUOTE ]Ditto's...the one is a pie bald. The bucks with small antlers, must be a very old buck somewhere that is way past his prime and still spreading his genes. need to get that deer too!! Guest Bushpilot
Re: 2 weird deer killed this weekend (PICS) If I could figure out how to get a picture in here from "My Documents", on my computer, I'd show you a Piebald with little light grey poka dots, and a brown tuft on the top of his head that I shot 2 years ago. deerslayer2295
Re: 2 weird deer killed this weekend (PICS) I agree that the one deer is a piebald deer, and it is in the genetics that cause the coloring. I don't believe it is because of inbreeding. It has to do withe genes. The mother could have had two fawns one could have been normal and the other could turn out the way the deer in the picture. As far as the first picture, that is definitely not a 4 1/2 to 5 1/2 yr old deer. I believe this to be a 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 yr old deer, but bad genetics could cause the defective looking rack growth. either way congrats to your friends on their first bow kills.
