GWSmith Posted October 9, 2006 Report Share Posted October 9, 2006 Took this afternoon off from hunting for a couple reasons. One, I've hunted relatively the same area for the last 3 days just using different standsites. Two, Yesterday when pulling up my bow to start my hunt it caught on some of the tall grass and vines near the bottom of the tree along a creekbed. When I got it up I checked and sure enough the sight was loose left to right. So loose that without all the practice and remembering what line the sight bracket was set on I would have never been able to return it to that setting. Of course the last thing I thought about was how nice it would have been to have an allen wrench in my pack(thats now been rectified). I set the sight back to the line it had been on and fired a test shot...hit perfect left to right So this afternoon me and the wife went to the archery range...she practiced shooting while sitting down(and did pretty good...but drawing back is still a chore). I set my sight FIRMLY in place after I made sure it was dialed in out to 40 yds(confidence regained)!!! On the way home I talked the Wife into checking out the cornfield I have been hunting to see if they have finished cutting it and they have....27 deer in the field A couple Bucks that were noticeable from a distance too...the time was 6:30PM I got an instant cramp in my bow arm and probably left my fingerprints imbedded in the steering wheel Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Let alone the fact that when I did pull off the side of the road to gawk with my tongue hanging out of my mouth...EVERY DEER HAD THEIR RADAR LOCKED ON MY TRUCK! [/ QUOTE ] Al...No Doghouse I was held prisoner though I had 4 deer come out into the cut corn field in range(25-30yds) but too late to shoot. I whispered to my Wife on the cell phone while they were out in front of me to let her know why I was going to be home later than normal. Wife: "Are you OK honey"???? Me: "Would be if I could see my sight pins" I had to stay an extra 45 minutes in the stand before they had fed their way, with the wind hitting their butts, to the East enough for me to get down without spooking them. If you pull over or stop to look...Every deer in the field goes on high alert, every ear is pointed in your direction, full radar lock on your location. If you Dare to crack the door on your vehicle...they are gone before your second foot hits the ground One good thing happens on every hunt even if you dont get a shot besides being able to be there hunting...Last night I used the Red LED light on my headlamp for everything including climbing down from the tree to walking back and getting in the truck....Suprisingly the deer never left the field even though by the time I got to the truck they were just black masses against the lighter backround of the cut cornfield! They had to at least have heard me walking(tripping over stubble). The reason I waited was so when I left I would be downwind of them...but the light did not seem to bother them!!! So far this bowseason except for one hunt I've concentrated my efforts on this field. I'm learning how they are reacting to different weather situations and have narrowed down the best standsites according to how the deer move. [/ QUOTE ] I've seemed to have misplaced my night vision goggles, I cant find a way to mount the 4-D cell Maglight as a stabilizer on my bow, but the previous 2 possibilities are frowned upon by the current Game Regulations and my personal ethics I just have to be there at the right time and the deer are dictating, slowly but surely, what standsite that will happen at. Good luck buddy and hope they stroll into range for both of you soon. So far the only deer I've had in range were young bucks and does with spotted fawns. I've had those spotted fawns nursing those does twice within the 30 yard line. One with twins put on a pretty funny show with her trying to shake them loose.
