clayman
Just spent another week with my brother, dad, and friends for our annual waterfowl smackdown in Manitoba. My digi-cam wasn't working at all so I left it home. Got a few pics on film, but probably won't get them posted online. Goose hunting was awful. The snows weren't down in any numbers yet and we just couldn't dial in on the ones that were there. I did get a shot at one small flock of Speckle Bellies, but for as hard as my bro and I hit them, all we did was knock a few feathers loose. We about wanted to cry when none of them fell. The whole flock was mature birds with awsome spotting on their breasts, and anyone of them would have made it to the taxidermist. I did manage to shoot two Canada geese, one was a 10.5 pound greater, the other was a real small one that was slightly twice as big as a mallard I shot. And I did actually get one snow goose late in the week after the weather forced some god numbers in to the area where we hunt. Duck hunting was a lot of work. THe wind was screaming for nearly three full days and it actually kept a lot of birds from moving around very much. In all we brought back 66 ducks, mostly mallards, pintail and gadwall, but also some GW teal, canvasbacks and one spoonie. One of our local friends did help us out on the snow geese. We got back from a day in the marsh and he had dropped off 20 birds that he and a friend pulled a successful sneak on earlier that day. Aside from the wind and the poor snow goose numbers, we managed to put birds in the freezer and it was still a good week that went by too fast - as they always do. Now it's time for me to switch gears and get ready for the whitetail season in a few weeks.
