Knife

I am thinking of getting a different knife for gutting/skinning, and not sure what to get. I want something that is fixed blade, EASY to sharpen, and not overly big. I have used an Old Timer pocket knife the last several years, but would like something different. I looked at some Gerber blades yesterday, but wanted to get some differing opnions and suggestions

Re: Knife

I use one of the Remington Big Game knives. It is great. It has 1 blade and a gut hook-saw combination! Easy to sharpen and it holds an edge pretty good. It is a folding knife and comes with a sheath!

I have used this one for several years and I don't know how many deer I have gutted and skinned with it! They cost about $45.00!

As far as quality I think it would be hard to beat a CutCo. Their kitchen knives are SCARY sharp. I havent bought one of their hunting knives yet but its in the plans..

Again, You can not go wrong with a Case!

Re: Knife

I used the standard Buck, Gerber, Case, Schrade, etc knives for many years. One day I stepped up to Cold Steel. I will never buy another 440 stainless steel knife ever agein. They are not that great. I prefer AUS8A, CarbonV, or a damascus.

Re: Knife

I'am a CV(chrome vanadium) steel guy. That was the original Case pocket knife steel. The CV blades are easy to sharpen and really hold their edge. Have to keep a little oil on them for protection though. Alot of Case knives are still in production with CV steel, and also Damascus steel.
