Officially Hunting a Ghost

Hi all. After taking an impressive 8 pointer off an oak ridge in 2002 I called my buddy and proclaimed "The King of the Hill has fallen". 2 nights later his son was driving the road parallel to my hunting area and nearly hit a monster of a buck.

Since that day and for 3 seasons now, this buck (or maybe even another one!) has tore up this hill with rubs and scrapes.

In 2003 he was moving in the predawn busting me when I would try to get into my stand (and I like to get in real early).

In 2004 & 2005 he would walk well out of bow range and never give a full view of himself and make scrapes and rubs as if taunting me while in my stand.

This year he is pushing does, I can even here him grunting from time to time as the does come busting out of the brush past my stand. A glimpse of antler on one day, a grunt the next, the sounds of him scraping just out of range.

He has even invaded my dreams! I am being haunted, no make that TORTURED, by this ghost of a buck.... You know something? I love this sport!!!

Re: Officially Hunting a Ghost

consider youself fortunate to have seen such and awesome animal in the wild. grin.gif

if you know where he frequents, you might have a chance at him. the funny thing about big bucks is they show up when you least expect them to. when you hunt be ready at all times. you just never know when he might show up.

targeting a specific big buck is tough work. just keep at it and maybe you get your chance this year.

good luck.
