My dad died in 2001, after 29 years and three children with my mom. My mom met a guy that makes her happy and after being together about four years, they've decided to marry. They've opted to go to a justice of the peace in Illinois and skip a church ceremony. Given their circumstances, I understand. It's just weird to me--the whole thing. I don't know why--she's been with this guy for four years and they definitely do care about one another. I do not have a problem with them getting married--it's just so strange to me and I don't know why. I went through something similar, but it was with my grandmother over two years ago. She owns a tourist resort, a couple that came up in August for a week were close friends. The woman died of breast cancer and Bill would come up for a few weeks at a time even during the offseason to get away from it all back home in Ohio. This went on for a couple years, then weeks turned into months, and before we knew it, it was 6 months at a time. Next thing we know, after about 3 years, I went up on Valentines day and gran showed me her left hand. He had proposed to her. He moved from Ohio up here to Canada and runs the resort with my grandma, the resort he used to come up to for vacation. They got married in April of 2004. I would look for mom to be both happy and sad on wedding day. On one hand, a new life with someone she loves. On the other hand, missing and feeling somewhat guilty about moving on.
