Jeramie Posted November 8, 2006 Report Share Posted November 8, 2006 Im getting really sick of these things. Ive killed probably 8 in the last few months. I finally thought I had taken care of them and would have to deal with the occasional drifter. This morning I was heading out to take the trash to the gate, roughly 4:00a.m., and head on to work. I get out the front door and a skunk is standing in the drive by the wifes van. I run back in and get the .22lr. He saw me and started moving away. I took a shot, hit him a little far back so I shot it again. Back in the house. The wife said did you get both of them? I told her I had to shoot twice. Anyway, I have the front door open so as im approaching the front storm door I see another bolt behind the Van and truck. Back to the .22 and im outside again. I gave it a minute to get in front of my huge elm tree (backstop) and nailed it. It was a tough bugger and started dragging itself. I shot it again and went back in the house. I go outside and load the trash. I look over and the last skunk I shot was still dragging itself! Back in the house. This time I grab the pellet gun so I can fire at will without the neighbors hearing a .22 at 4:00a.m. One shot in the head and its over. Im getting SICK of these stupid things. I can just picture you, Jeramie, running around the front yard with your .22, a green army helmet, rolling around the yard and ducking behind vehicles and trees with the wife holding the baby looking out the front door. My wife would kill me! LOL! [/ QUOTE ] Yes and now. One I shot sprayed everywhere. The other did not. I have a 150' x 150 chain link fencing the house off of my 12-acres. I shoot them in the field just out front. Plus we would rather get the smell from a dead skunk then the horse, cars, and trucks being sprayed. I have a 4-year old gelding that cant help but chase cats. He wont hurt them but he loves to play with them. Unfortunately he has yet to figure out the difference between a skunk and cat.
