Second archery kill of '06

Well Thursday evening around 5:15pm I took a nice mature doe. She came out with 3 other deer...they all walked right under me. I drew my bow at or around 10 yards, but she turned and started walking away. I broke down and waited since she wasn't spooked and just feeding along.

At 20 yards she started to turn...I drew again but she must have caught movement and turned and looked right at me. I held full draw hoping she'd look away...but she didn't. I did notice her ears weren't focused on me...but facing behind her. So I thought she isn't on full alert (at least not because of me).

She was quartering away pretty hard and I was a little concerned using a mech. head for this angle. I felt myself starting to shake a little and thought...its now or never.

I let the arrow fly and it hit the mark...she kicked her hind legs and ran full tilt out of sight. About 2 mins. later I heard what I thought was a crash. I seen when she ran my fletchings were sticking out...so I knew I didn't have a complete pass through.

After about 30 mins. I got down and waited for Pudd to show up since it was now dark. We picked up blood a few yards in the wood line...she wasn't bleeding bad...but not having a pass through...I figured she wouldn't.

We started to notice drops of blood on both side of the trail. After about 60 yards, we found the arrow in one piece...blood clear up to the fletchings. Another 15 yards and there she was...the arrow went in right in front of the rightside hind quarter and the broadhead poked out just behind the left front shoulder. Just sliced the near side lung and the other lung was mush (like she was shot with a gun).

Sorry no pictures due to darkness and time. Iam very thankful to take such a great animal...she'll make good freezer meat! wink.gif
