Swamphunter Posted November 27, 2006 Report Share Posted November 27, 2006 I am getting rid of my current ATV ramps as with my truck being a 2500HD, it sits too high to safely use my current ramps which are 69" long. I am not sure which ones I want, but were thinking of one of the two shown below. Which ones do you guys with the bigger trucks use? These I like (just like what I have but the longer version) These are 83" long... or these (I worry a bit about them seperating while I am loading. These are 84" long. Last question...will the extra 2 feet really make it much easier to load my ATV or will it not be that big of a difference? I have already dumped my 4 wheeler out of my truck once trying to load it and it cost over $800 to repair. My insurance covered it except the deductable but man I don't want to do that again. To start with you are not adding 2 ft. in length, the difference is either 14" or 15" depending on which one you use. Set the ramps you have now up, and then measure back from the bottom of the ramp about 10" and this will give you the approximate location where the new ramp will meet the ground. Then judge for yourself if the decrease in the angle will justify your purchase of the new ramps. You could always keep the ramps you have and use both at the same time, put one ramp halfway up the other ramp. That would be a bit of a pain, but not as much as trying to get a 4 wheeler off of you. They are just long enough to fit in the shrotbed chevy under the 4 wheeler and still be able to close the gate. Thought you would be using that nice trailer. I think they were much better and safer than the factory ones. I made a rectangular frame out of angle iron, then cut and welded in a piece of heavy guage expanded metal for the floor. The edges on the angle iron made some small side rails and the tires on the ATV really gripped that expanded metal. I had a long bed 3/4 ton truck at the time so I made mine 7.5 feet long and 14 inches wide. You'll need to adjust the width to match the size of tires on your four wheeler. I have tri-folding ramps with straps you can attach under your bumper so they don't slide out from your tailgate. I have oversized tires on my atv and still have plenty of room on both sides of the ramps. I don't drive my wheeler up the ramp for the same reason. I stand beside the ramp and walk the wheeler up the ramp. It's much safer and easy to do.
