What the heck is this???

I picked this round up from one of my contractors who found it laying on the ground outside of a FOB.

Since I'm naturally inquisitive and want to know if something other than a .30 cal round is being shot at me, I did some digging on the net.

Apparently it's a 5.7x20. The round has a 28mm casing. Which is all great and wonderful, but I can't find out what fires it, ie handgun or rifle.

Also, I couldn't find out anything on the ballistics, fps, etc.

Here's a pic next to a 5.56 and AA battery.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Re: What the heck is this???

Yep its a handgun round that is used in FN's Five-seveN. The key idea behind that ammunition and weapons is to provide good penetration against personnel, protected by modern body armour, while keeping weapons' weight, dimensions and recoil at the reasonable levels. It shoots a 31 grain, pointed steel and aluminum core bullet, to the muzzle velocity of 2130 fps from the 4.8" pistol barrel.

Its supposed to be for government or law enforcement sales only. But now the PS90 carbine introduced to the civilian market. The PS90 was made available in OD green (or black, eventually) with 16-inch barrel, giving an increase in velocity over the standard P90.
