firefighter
No i didnt get a deer this morning but, wow think i'll leave my gun at home addicted to the bow stalk...... I get to this spot on public land that is for BOW ONLY, NO GUNS PERMITTED, that i've always used. Seen many deer in this area and with the storm comming in today i figured why not. I get there around 6, light drizzle and a light breeze comming in from the south west, Theres this area that i've been seeing this 10 point everytime i go there, so i figured i would sneak around and below him from the east and keep the wind to my face. The ground is very soft so i can stalk, at times i couldnt even hear myself take a step. i see a few doe's around 7:30 while i'm working my way around the bottom, i sit for a bit as i get closer to the area where i've seen him tending to a doe in the past week. After not seeing any movement for about an hour, i work my around the top to another area that is extremelly thick and as i'm walking i hear something move below me, i start down at an angle about 10 yards, use my buck call, then i hear a wheeze 2x's, i drop to my knee, scan the area, and 3 bucks start working there way to my left out of the thick stuff. They walked away at a fast past, but not fast enough for me to get a good look at them, 2 - 8 points, and 1 had to be at least 12 or more points, the rack on the lead buck was enourmous in mass...... i wait about 5 minutes then backtrack to get up in front of them, i walked at a fast pace bent over going through thick sticker bush's and bush's...... i got out to a clearing side stepping while walking along the edge with open woods behind, and low and behold , 1 of the buck's bolted out saw me then bolted back in the thick cover. I could have shot him, but i want the one i now call BIG BOY,,,,i got a glimpse of another one as it was heading down a hill, not running but a steady pace. The big boy i didnt see again but i know he's there,, i'll get it a couple of days then go back..needless to say my heart was pounding and i still cant get over how close i came to getting one while stalking using my bow........
