With all the below zero weather/wind chills the deer were moving this year.

The first morning I sat by a tree and had a year and a half old and a two and a half year old come in. One was that big brow buck we have a bunch of pictures of but he has a lot of room to grow. Later at 8:45 a group of 5 does and fawns came strolling through at 30 yards. The first fawn stepped by and the big doe stepped out facing nearly straight at me. When she put her head behind the tree I swung my gun and was caught by a third fawn further back, they were staring at me so I went ahead and took the front on shot. With all the smoke I wasn't sure wether I had hit her or not, so I waited and eventually found her 60 yards away, perfect hit. That was just the morning.

Now 11 o'clock we did a "push" through some neighbors timber. Set up my dad and sister and brother on the bottom side, and I went to the top snorted and broke a few branches just to get the deer up. We really don't like to do all out pushes through the timber as it never seems to work with only four of us.

Now 12:30 we decided to just go and sit. That we did and the wind was COLD!!! Had to tuff it out though. 1:30 rolls around and my dad and sister had a great buck step out 100 yards away. It walked up in the timber and bedded down. My sister got the prohunter ready and dad got on the grunt call. He stood up and started making his way down the field right to them. He was walking straight on and dad told my sister to take the open shot to the chest. The buck put its head down at 81 yards, put it up and she dropped him dead in his tracks! He has ten typical points and the right main beam is broken else it would have been a typical 11. Have not put the tape to him yet though. By the way this is my sisters first deer ever!!!

At about 3:30 I have a BIG doe come running full speed out of the creek, she stops at 120 yards and stares back; walks to 73 yards and I am waiting because all she is doing is looking behind her; so I am waiting for teh big boy to step out. Out he steps.....except it was a spike. smirk.gif So she trots back to 125-130 yards as I debate to take her or wait for the buck. So i shoot, and she takes off and falls near the creek. (Had to finish her off later, but sometimes it has to be done). Less than a half hour after I shoot, my brother shoots TWICE only a few hundred yards away dropping two nice does. He told me later that a monster buck walked within 100 yards of me, but I couldn't see it. I have a feeling we will meet in late muzzleloader. cool.gif So it is four o'clock and we are all tagged out with four does and 1 big buck, couldn't have had more success in one day. The deer were bunched up and on the move, we seen and unbeleivable amount of deer including a big group of ten. The bucks were chasing yet also.
