Shooting Steel

I shoot an 870 Wingmaster (1980's i think) that has a 29 or 30" full barrel. It has no interchangable chokes.. just the smooth full barrel. A buddy was telling that I shouldnt shoot steel through it because it doesnt compress towards the end of the barrel like lead shot does and it could cause the end of my barrel to slowly expand or something. Just wondering if this is true in case I need to buy another barrel??

thanks

Jason

Re: Shooting Steel

honestly i would not shoot steel through fixed choke barrels, i could definately bulge the barrel, but you will here other people say it will not harm the barrel, if it were me i would look around and just buy a new barrel for the gun that will fit it, but the prices of barrels these days almost better off just buying a new 870

Re: Shooting Steel

Thats what they told me ... so i went to the gunsmith and asked him about it and he took it and said he bored it out. Beats me what it does but he said that shooting steel through it now will not effect it at all.
