MLB Salaries

I have a sure-fire, can't miss solution to fixing the quickly inflating MLB player salaries!! grin.gifgrin.gif

Draft Boras to fight in Iraq for a few years!

It's extremely sad when the Dodgers sign JD Drew to an 11 million a year contract and everyone agrees that they overpaid. Only to have the guy opt out of the guaranteed contract this year to get over 14 million a year!!!?????? confused.gifconfused.gif

It just makes me sick.

BTW---rhetorical question. If Barry Zito commands 15-17 million a year right now. How much will Johan Santana command in 2008?????? cool.gifshocked.gif

Oh alright. What is killing me is the salaries relievers are getting. Even guys who are only gonna come in during garbage innings are getting huge multi-year deals. confused.gif

[/ QUOTE ]

I know. Look at Gagne. He'll get at least 5 million for an arm that will probably blow up after 5 pitches.

Players nowadays aren't getting paid what they're worth, they're getting paid dependent upon how flooded the market is. That's why you see players contracts including opt out clauses.

Re: MLB Salaries

I can almost see the top guys getting paid huge...but when clowns are batting .260 like Carlos Lee, the last year he played for the Brewers, he got like $6 + million a year from Houston. That's insane.

I think I could still bat .240 shocked.gif

I absolutely refuse to buy a ticket to a game anymore. mad.gifcrazy.gif

Johan would probably get 6 years for 120 million.

While is may seem like Boras is the bad guy, you have to look at the player and what he "thinks" he is worth.

It's nice to see guys like Chris Carpenter take less to stay where he is at. He could have easily gotten 20mil if he went into the FA pool.

I hear the Dodgers may get ManRam. You like?

[/ QUOTE ]

I've heard several rumors about the Dodgers getting ManRam but most of them I didn't like. The only one I vaguely liked was a three way trade with Houston. Dodgers get ManRam, Houston gets Brad Penny and the Red Sox get Morgan Ensberg and James Loney.

Will never happen, but I'd give up Penny and Ensberg for Manny. And heck, at 8 million, Penny is a steal in today's market.

BTW--Finn, I think you made a type. Houston paid Carlos 16+ million a year. crazy.gif

Re: MLB Salaries

Here's an even more sure fire way to decrease salaries: When we the fan start refusing to pay $30 for a ticket, $10 to park, $5 for a hot dog, and $7 for a coke or beer, then we'll see salaries come down. Fans paying those prices are paying the salaries, the higer the salary, the higher the prices. As long as we pay it, players will get more and more.

Of course, if I lived in a city with a baseball team, I'm pretty sure I'd be at more than one game a year. crazy.gif

Re: MLB Salaries

I agree that Santana will probably get 20 mil. But if Zito is getting 15, by talent alone, Santana should get almost 30.

Drew's getting 14. So when Vernon Wells becomes a free agent, he should get at least 25.

When is this going to stop?

I've always said, that I'd rather the players get more money instead of the owner's pocketing it, but it's getting ridiculous. Stop the spending and lower the prices.

That would happen if people stopped going to the games. But unfortunately, people have shown that they'll continue to buy tickets (epecially NFL tickets) regardless of prices. They know they got us.
