Smitteken
I went out friday morning to try my late season luck. Shortly after sun up I heard running behind me. "Great I'm busted already" When I turned around I saw two little does running 100 mph in about a 5 acre circle. They did that for about a minute or two and stopped by there moms. I guess they were just playing around. Then all four worked around behind me and started to my right. The first two were the little ones and went through about 35 yards, then the first big doe went through about 50 yards, the last big doe was coming through about 30 yards. So as I was setting up for momma when an arrow in my quiver flicked the edge of my stand. Boom... Busted. They didn't spook though, but I did have a 15 minute staring contest with 4 does. They calmed down finally and I got to full draw. I needed another step out of one of the bigger does but she wouldn't move. I let down and once again got in a stare down. The two bigger ones and one of the smaller ones backed out to about 60 yards and continued to browse. One of the smaller ones was still in range. So I ranged a spot at 48 yards, drew waited, and connected. (I may get hung out to dry on this long of a shot, but I practice out to 65 yards, and I'm confident in my shooting and equipment.) At the shot they all ran off, and after about 30 seconds I heard them blowing and running the other direction. So I figured she was down. I gave her a good 1.5 hrs just to be sure and started after her. I had a pretty good trail and recovered her shortly after. No pics sorry the wife had the camera. I ended up seeing 15 does, only one other was in range (20 yards) but I already had an arrow in one and didn't want to a take a chance at ruining a good day. Theres still time left. rad_112176
Re: More Meat Sounds like it will be good eating. Nobody should hang you out to dry cause who is to say what is too far? Have a friend that shot one of his biggest bucks at 60 yrds and shoots does at that distance all the time. It's all on how the person shoots to determine there own distances. I personally would only shoot out to about 40-45, but then again if i had a good shoulder i would probably practice longer shooting. Congrats.
