3seasons
Hi guys new to the forum. I was shooting my 22 the other day and had a bullet blow up. Its a ruger 10/22. Have any of you ever seen this or do you know if it will fire if the bolt is open. Thanks for any info.
Gator
Re: Bullet blew up What part of the bullet blew up? Was it the casing? I had a similiar experience MANY years ago with my Win. 22. The bullet went out the barrel, and the head blew off the casing, leaving the casing stuck in the bore. Not quite sure what happened, but will NEVER fire Fed 22 ammo EVER again. CCI for me from then on
AJ
Re: Bullet blew up Yep, this has happened on several occasions. Usually this occurs when the gun being used when the gun is very dirty. The bolt will feed the next cartridge into the chamber but it does not go in all the way and the shooter fires off the next round. Since the case is not supported by the chamber, it ruptures. It makes a vey loud report, the bullet exits the barrek, and the case head looks like a mushroom. The blowback semi auto design will automatically headspace but it can also fire off a round that is just out of battery.

[/ QUOTE ] Think that is what happened to mine AJ, I remeber the bolt not being closed all the way, but thought nothing of it. Gotta remeber, this was ALONG time ago......... coles
Re: Bullet blew up i used to shoot Agulias .22s from Cabelas and i dont shoot them anymore. i had a couple left in my pistol so i just shot them at the fence post that was probably 15-20 feet away. well when i shot it sounded like nothing happend and the bullet bounced off the post and hit me in the arm. it didnt hurt at all but i realized how bad it could have been.
