wtnhunt
Got an electronic caller oredered from cabelas, a Johnny Stewart preymaster. Have heard yotes up about 150-200 yards away from our house through the woods in the evenings just after dark on several occasions here lately. They seem to be at the edge of the woods opposite our house quite a bit. Got a deer blind back behind the house about 150 yards from the back door that over looks a field and would have shots to the woods edges ranging out to about 200 yards. Actually could probably use the ridge in front of the blind to my advantage for yotes coming out of the woods they would have to come out of the woods from just about all directions to see where I plan to set the speaker. There is woods between the blind and the field and a gully running behind the blind that is wooded, between the blind and the house. Would using the caller here be better in the mornings or afternoons, seeing as how I am hearing the yotes in the afternoons? Got another spot in the bottom I could set on the ground along the fence row at the top of the hill and call from a ground blind setup. Have seen yotes from both locations both morning and afternoons in the past. Which would likely be better to have some action and how long should I call from each place before moving on? How early before dark should I start trying to call.
sureshot
Re: Any tips it is hard to say, any spot will work just work the wind, try to set it up so they HAVE to get in the open to wind you, if they are there at night they prob are there all day sleeping and just when they get moving they start to yip a bit, JMO, I know I have only called in 1 coyote in the past 3 weeks before 11 am, and I have shot over 25, I have no idea why maybe in the cold they are not moving in the am as much, [could be different there] but I seem to notice it every year here as mating starts, sunday the 8 we got were inbetween 11.30 and 4.30, I would try to use vocalization a bit more thsi time of eyar and be patiant, they will take up to 1/2 hour or more if coming into howls, good luck, wish i was there to help out put a few on the strecher lol! wtnhunt
Re: Any tips Thanks for the advice Bret. Think if it comes in before this weekend, will try it out over the weekned and give each place about an hour in the mornings. Will try a couple hours in the afternoons. Really need to try to thin the yotes out as much as possible here before the fawning season.
