Squirrelhunter91
Is it ok for the broadhead to be fatter than the arrow? Will it affect arrow flight at all? I screwed on a bunch of different heads before including some Muzzy 125's, Muzzy 75's, Slick Trick 100's. I didn't try the Muzzy 100 yet, but thats what I plan on shooting this year. But if the Muzzy 100 where it backs up to the arrow, is fatter than the shaft is this ok? So far out of all the broadheads I put on the shafts, the Slick Trick 100 was the best fit. BowtechTurkeyHunter
Re: Broadhead fatter than arrow How much fatter? it wont affect flight ... the only problem you will have is when you go to try and pull it out of a target it will catch pulling it out ... Squirrelhunter91
Re: Broadhead fatter than arrow It isn't too much fatter.. Maybe an 1/8" Also, how do I determine what size field tips I need? I have some 9/32" tips laying around that seemed to fit, but I want to be just right. Turkeygirl
Re: Broadhead fatter than arrow Good questions. Maybe that's why my arrows were hard to pull out because of the 125 grain heads. I've switched to 100 grain so maybe the broadheads will pull out. I asked the same question about field tips, I got a good answer from someone on here, but I can't remember who it was.

Bownarow
Re: Broadhead fatter than arrow You want your broadheads to be fatter that your shafts. You absolutely do not want them to be smaller diameter than your shafts b/c then that lip will create increased drag and result in slower arrow flight and decreased penetration. wtnhunt
Re: Broadhead fatter than arrow Shooting small diameter carbons here Joe, and the only thing I have ever had an issue with was removing the arrows from a target. Once I switched to a layered target, that really was no longer an issue.

coles
Re: Broadhead fatter than arrow if you are goin to shoot 100gr broadheads then you should shoot 100gr field tips. i guess the diameter doesnt matter too much. it will jsut make it harder or easier to pull out of the target. Ravin R10 man
Re: Broadhead fatter than arrow My broadheads are bigger too than the shaft..it just makes for better penatration for the arrow
Bob LeBlanc
Re: Broadhead fatter than arrow The only thing that I can think of that might cause issue is if the broadhead blades do not have a good 'bite' on the insert. The NAP Thunderheads had this issue, and the resolve was to install a small washer behind the broadhead so the replaceable blades wouldn't pop out on impact with a game animal (an obvious performance detriment.) christsavedme
Re: Broadhead fatter than arrow My BH are larger than my arrows as well and I have had no problems. Other than the ones mentioned about removing an arrow from the target.
