jbeck Posted February 28, 2007 Report Share Posted February 28, 2007 Yep, stopped at the house yesterday for lunch, when I came out to the truck I noticed some turkeys in the field. It took a while for all to file out of the timber, but I had the Zeis Bino's in the truck and counted 9 gobblers. 1 looked like it had really good spurs, the others looked like your run of the mill 2 year olds. You know, the ones that gobble like crazy and run in to your calls. I can't wait for spring. I did pick up a shooter for the first day, my Dad would like to try to take a turkey. He has never shot a turkey or deer, and expressed the desire to hunt spring gobblers this spring. I usually am not nervouse about having shooters, but this one is some pressure. I really want to get Dad a bird, I don't know how long the Lord will let me have Dad before he wants him, so I'm going to do my best to fullfill his request. Wish me luck. Def. leave a morning open for me the first week. I can see it now. 5:00 am to 7:30 = Gobbler killing 8:00 to 9:30 = breakfast, you buy 10:30 to 2:30 = Golfing 4:00 to 8:00 = Crappie fishing. sounds like a good plan to me. Heck I'm coming up for the whole week haha. I am most likely not working this spring so birds better watch out. I'm buying breakfast as long as we go to that same place, man that breakfast was good. I'm sure that you dad will enjoy the hunt reguardless, especially if he gets the chance to hear a Big Tom gobble. Taking one will then just become icing on the cake. I got one of my buddies into Turkey hunting 2 years ago. He didn't get to take one the first year, but last year on opening day I call in a Tom with 10" beard and 1" spurs, for his first bird during spring gobbler season. I have two new shooter this year. My 15 y/o daughter "says" she want to go on the youth day, she a cheerleader, and a second buddy will have the first shot on opening day. Good luck again and "Shoot'em in the head".
