markyj987
You know what? Getting older ain't so bad. Sure, I still gripe about it on a daily basis, but this year it's finally clicked. After my Dad died in Feb. of 2001, it's been like I was just "going through the motions" of the whole family shin-dig. When my grandpa died in June, it seemed like the death of our traditions altogether. (Honestly, for sadly--mostly cynical reasons. I think most of the family just showed up for him anyway--and couldn't stand each other...LOL) My niece is now 20 months old. At that age where she's walking, talking, and taking interest in the world around her. Since I see her more than my brother, I've become the favorite uncle. When she comes over or I visit my sister and brother-in-law, she smiles and wants me to pick her up. When I leave, she starts to cry. The whole time I'm there, she wants to show me her toys, talk to me, or try to tickle me. She's a great kid...and cute too. (I think my sister and brother-in-law got the wrong one at the hospital...LOL). Anyway, this is the first Christmas in a long time that I won't just be "tolerating." I have my tree up with gifts underneath--and the greatest gift will be to see that child smile when she opens them. It's amazing how kids change you---and it's even better when it's nieces and nephews--then you don't have to deal with the temper tantrums...LOL. Not only all of that...but with an uncle as awesome as me, (LMBO) I'm not so worried about our future generations...LOL It's about time I fully understood it. Yes, I know that it is the day we celebrate the birth of the Savior. However, as we go through the stresses of every day life, sometimes we forget the other lessons He taught us. God Bless all of you and your families and have a Merry Christmas.
