Planning a BIG Anniversary Party, Help!

Ok gang, here is the situation. My wife and I have been together for 15-years but this year is our tenth year of being married. My wife mentioned doing something "special" but doesn't think ive thought much about it. I mentioned going to Branson which we have done countless times so the special factor isn't there.

What she doesn't know is behind the scenes Im planning a HUGE event. Keep in mind this takes Place in July (months away I know) but it is going to be on a GRAND scale. So far I have put in an order to book a bluegrass band. We will also have guitars setup for other musicians to play (its at my house, you think I wouldn't pick up a guitar at some point...).

I started a Guest List and as of Right now I have 80-people...... Literally. Out of the 80 I guarantee at least 50-60 will be there. The majority of that is family alone with a few people from the church. For our daughters first birthday party we had over 50 so getting that number again (especially with free food and bluegrass) will be a snap.

Im trying to put together a remotely accurate cost. I am putting back cash and picking up items I can right now (such as paper plates, forks, cups, etc.). The only problem is I need to know how much food, soda, etc to buy. I want to be sure to have enough cash set aside that I can just go pick everything up the week do the shindig.

On the menu....

* Low Country Boil (shrimp boil) Corn on the cob, Okra, Shrimp, Potatoes, Onions, etc.

* Hot dogs for the kids if they dont like Shrimp Boil

* Probably Chips and Dips (which guest can pitch in if they want). Vegetable Trays, etc.

* 2-liters of pop and Tea, etc.

Anyway, this is by far the biggest thing ive done for my wife. Im even going so far as to call the PO and be sure they make her work until noon that day so when she gets home its already kicked off. Her boss is a great lady and will do it for if I ask, of course Im sure ill have to invite her too.... grin.gif

Anyway, I know this seems grand scale but it IS going to happen.... HELP! How would I figure potatoes, and corn? Im already planning on about 15lbs of freshwater shrimp. The hot dogs are cheap and I can just pick them up with out a problem but planning the rest of this is throwing me in a tailspin..... tongue.gif

Jeramie.....this is what Mom's and mothers-in-law are for. Can you ask them to pitch in with the taters and corn? Or maybe someone in your church would know how much to get. Churches are always having to figure out stuff like that for a bunch of people.

I dunno....but 15 pounds doesn't sound like a lot of shrimp to me. Not for the crowd you've invited. I would guesstimate at LEAST 20 pounds. wink.gif

BTW...you should be getting the husband of the year award. Way to go. wink.gifgrin.gif Your wife's gonna be very happy I am sure.

Jeramie....first of all congrats on the milestone.....my wife and I are almost at identicle timeframes as you and your's.......we've been together nearly 14 years and married just over 9.....I've got 10 months to plan our shin dig, but unlike you, I am pretty much clueless on what i should do.......big feed and a band appeals to me also, but then agfain I think of maybe something a little quieter and to ourselves as well......maybe like an alaskan cruise or something like that......

Keep up the great work and keep us posted on your "secret"...
