Re: Blue Angels

Yes they are pretty incredible, but, to put a downer on this post, they are also an incredible waste of taxpayer money. They burn more fuel in one performance than you will burn in your vehicle in a decade. An impressive, feel good, waste. The cost of one of those jets could feed all the hungry children in America for several years. Need I say more.

Re: Blue Angels

Had the pleasure of being able to meet the team in 2002 out in San Diego. My son was stationed there with the Marine Corps, 3MAW, MAG11, 352 Raiders They had the annual airshow so my wife and I got to head out and meet them the day before the show and have lunch. We also got to climb aboard Fat Albert.

Re: Blue Angels

I work in Vinings GA, right near Dobbins AFB / NAS Atlanta. Two years out of the last 5, the Blue Angels have performed at the air show.

On Friday before the show, they practice. Well, my coworker and I went to the roof of our building (25 floors) and it turns out that our building must have been a landmark for them because number 4 kept coming over top of our building. The first time or two it was at relative speed but we could see the pilot's face as he banked literally directly over our head. The next few times he came in doing one of those low speed turns where it looks like they are going to stall. I could see his face and could make out details of the cockpit inside...that's how close he was.

It was COOL to be within (guessing here) ~100 feet under one of those things and they are LOUD.
