Opening morning...boy that sounds good. Too bad somebody didn't tell the turkeys...or maybe they did. Only heard 3 birds gobble this morning & I think they were 2 counties away. Oh well, it was great to be out there all camoed up, shotgun in hand, & listening to the woods wakeup. I think the turkeys slept in though. grin.gif

Tracy,

How did yours go?

Re: Opening Morning Bust

UPDATE! Just talked to the guy we left in the woods (we had to bail & get back to work). Aparently the birds got fired up around 8:00 & he got right in the middle of them. Had 5 gobblers & 2 hens come in putting on a show & now there are only 4 left in that bunch!!!!! When he sends pics I will post them for everyone.

About like yours. With the lack of gobbling you would have sworn I was hunting Osceolas. grin.gif It was a pretty good morning until about 11:00 when the bottom fell out and it started raining. This morning was a lot like yesterday morning with the exception of really cool temps and high winds. It's suppose to get down to the low 30s tonight so we'll just have to wait and see what happens in the morning. smirk.gif

It's kind of hard for me to feel sorry for you guys down south not getting into birds. At least you can hunt. There is still about 6 inches of snow on the ground up here with the temp suppose to get down to about 10 tonight. Our season in Minnesota doesn't start for about a month yet!

Anyways, best of luck to you southern people.

Re: Opening Morning Bust

I went opening afternoon it was raining hard. I did the dumbest thing that i add to my turkey mess ups. I was in a field that had a rise in it. Well i set my decoys up (first time to set up these blow up decoys) well we been in the rain maybe 2 hours and i saw some turkey droppings in the field but it was my second time on the property. Well my decoy blew over and since i didnt have confidence in my setup i STOOD UP and it was all over a tom and 2 hens where 50 yards on the other side of the slope. I just figured my deocy flying around would have scared um guess not. I learned, Took my buddy in is first hunt we eased up on a flock of 12 an he crawled out on the edge of the field while i called and he shot a jake. there was a tom but he was exicted and i was 2 hope everyone kills a good one.
