I make $40,000 dollars a year and I don't have a cell phone or Cable TV. Most of the people I see have a better car than I have too. What is the deal with that? Why do I pay my tax money for them to have more goodies than me? Sorry to complain here, but I was just wondering if other folks felt the same way or if anyone else has noticed this trend. I personally believe that those who are mentally and physically able to work should not be eligible for any type of welfare. Period. I also have no problem with a portion of my tax money going to those who can't work to help pay for the basic necessities, but I DO NOT want my tax money paying for luxury items like cell phones or automobiles. The reason you see that is because liberals are using the welfare system, along with the tax code and various other government institutions, to "buy" votes. If you absolutely cannot work then there has to be some way for you to exist and pay your bills. The abuse of the system is ridiculous. I wasn't sure if anyone else had ever noticed this trend or not. I was in line at the grocery store one day and a man paid for his enormous stack of TV dinners with his welfare money and then pulled out a wad of bills larger than I had ever seen to pay for his case of beer and carton of cigarettes. You know the really sad thing is that--just like the criminal justice system--many times the people who most need the welfare and public assistance can't get it. I know a man who fell from the top of a manhole when the rebar fell out of the concrete...no fault of his own. Fell around 15 feet and landed in a few inches of water. Shattered his foot and he can't hardly walk on it. Workman's comp and disability people are fighting him tooth and nail yet someone walks into McDonalds and fakes a fall and finds a doctor to certify it ends up loaded. If anyone deserves help, this man does. He doesn't want it, he wants to work but cannot using his skillsets...manual labor. Good man who wants to work but can't has been fighting for 2 years now to get help just so his family can eat and have a place to live. Sad. I arrived at check out just after a Mexican woman and her brood of children. They had two buggies FULL....I MEAN OVERFLOWING FULL.....of groceries. I just happened to look and see what they had.....the standard stuff plus lots of beer. Then she proceeded to hand the cashier a handful of WIC coupons. I think that her total for two full grocery buggies was $74 and some change. She clearly hasn't been here long because she couldn't speak a lick of English. I just shook my head. I really got fuming mad when I went out and that woman was loading her groceries into the back of a brand new Lincoln Navigator with a dealer tag on it. Loaded with the replacement billet grill and twenties. In other words a car I will probably never afford and she bought all that on WIC coupons and paid for the beer and probably some of it with cash. That's a sad statement, the welfare caddilac is back but it is now the Navigator. If she can afford that, she shouldn't be using WIC coupons. I, however, have a problem knowing that the people getting it don't belong here in the first place. What is happening is that our government is sending money to Mexico through subsidy. Every dollar in aid given to an illegal is a dollar that is probably being sent to Mexico or other country in latin America to help someone live. Folks with a brude of kids can get Earned income credit and make thousands of $$ on their tax return some get back more than they make while folks like my in-laws on a fixed income have to pay in thousands because they make too much in social security and retirement. Tell me that makes sence. I'm all for helping folks that can't work, but the ones who can should be forced to do public work to "earn" those food stamps. I grew up poor and with the obviously wrong assumption that poor people didn't get to have the things that rich folks had. That's why I went to college. I suspect that most are from people receiving unemployment benefits and they're just going through the motions of applying for various jobs, even though they don't really want that (or any) job, just to stay eligible for their benefits. I work at Chrysler and right now we have about 300 people in what the Union and Company call the "job bank". These people are the lowest seniority folks and get 40 hours of pay a week without even having to work for it. If I miss some work for an appt. then I lose the money from the hours that I lost , but these folks get full pay and don't even have to show up. On top of that they can go to school on the Union and Company's dollar while the rest of us with top seniority have to work for our pay and can't find the time to go back to college to get more education in case we lose our jobs. Some of those people have to work about two days a month if there is someone on vacation or something and when they have to work they complain about how hard the work is!!!! It grinds my gears when they complain and only have to work a couple of days for a full months pay and get the opportunity to go to college for free. Why don't the people with seniority get benefits like these folks that have no time and no seniority. They haven't earned any of this. This to me is just as bad as milking the welfare system.
