I've been told they use a mold to stretch the hide over and others have told me it's wire and stuffing? So which would it be or is there something else? Thanks! artisticwhitetails Posted April 18, 2007 Report Share Posted April 18, 2007 The majority of todays coon mounts will be done using manikins or "forms" purchased from a supply company. A capable taxidermist could certainly carve his own manikin from foam, sculpt and mold his own form or cast parts and wrap his body with filler and wire, but these methods are time consuming and not very profitable for commercial mounts. RTF Posted April 24, 2007 Report Share Posted April 24, 2007 99% of all taxidermy is done with the purchase of a foam manikan these days. Fish taxidermists are more incline to carve their own bodies.
