help on my mistake today.

Today I made a huge mistake and missed out on a big opportunity. I was hunting ridge lines in big woods of Missouri. I heard a Tom gobble a couple ridges over the other day. I wanted to get close to him today.

It took an hour to hike over a couple ridge lines to sneak up on him. While I was in transit he went down the side of the ridge and I didn't know that. I set up near the top and facing the top of the ridge. Since he went down the hill side he was now behind me.

In hind sight, I know this really isn't that big of a deal. I was very excited and made a rash decision to move to another tree and face downhill so I could see him approach. I called and he gobbled again. He didn't sound closer but he was getting close and it was loud.

With the quick move I didn't realize I did not have a good vantage point. I wouldn't have been able to see him until he was right on top of me. I got away with the move the first time, so I decided to move 10 yards back and get more space on him.

This time I did not get any more response from him and I never saw him. I don't know if he saw me move, spotted a hen, or just changed his mind. All I know is everything stopped immediately. I think he was closer than I thought and he saw me. I'm not certain though. I can't believe I didn't just stay put!! I'm so mad at myself!!

Here's my questions: This turkey has been at that spot for 3 days that I know of.

Providing he lives through the weekend, will he come to me if I return to that spot next week? Will he be call shy? Will he just live somewhere else now?

thank you
