dogdoc
Sunday my truck started missing--worse during any type of acceleration. Today the check engine light came on so I went to Auto-Zone to have a diagnostic test done. The code on the diagnostics showed that my truck had a defective Crankshaft Sensor. So I purchased a new one---so my question is: Is this a tough replacement job or can I do it myself. I always do my own tune-ups, brake changes, and other minor jobs. Also--can anyone please tell me where this thing is located:) here is a picture of it:
BuckNrut
Too bad there isn't a "print post" option. I know some "car people" and I can ask around. Hopefully someone here can answer your question sooner.

mehunter
I beleive it goes down where the timing marks used to be. Instead of you setting the timing it reads a mark in shaft and the computer does the rest.
wtnhunt
Not sure Todd, but bet a haynes or chiltons manual will tell you exactly where it goes. Have you tried a search on google?
birdhunter39
i looked it up on google .com. and typed it in there . it kept calling it a cam shaft sensor even though i typed in crank shaft . i first typed in crank shaft sensor , then the second time i typed in installing a crank shaft sensor
Shaun_300
It'll be either at the front or back of the motor, which is either where the harmonic balancer mounts to the engine (front) or right near where the tranny bolts to the motor near the starter. I'm not exactly sure where they are on Ford's but it'd be in one of those two places I'm sure. I know our V8's are on the back and the 4.3L V6's are on the front of the engine. If they're anything like our GM ones you'll need to perform a Crankshaft Position System Variation Learn procedure which we do through our GM scan tools. If you need to do this procedure you'll have to take it to a Ford dealer to have the sensor replaced and have them do the Crank relearn on it. dogdoc
ok--i found where it goes--right under the crank shaft--the only problem is that the air conditioner compressor has to be removed in order to pull it out--YUK! That's getting too much for me.

bulldawg
I had to take one of my vehicles in to get one of those replaced. It was about 6 years ago, and it was almost a 200 and some dollar repair back then, if I remember correctly. Good luck. Dawg
BuckNrut
Glad you found it!.... Checked with my Ford guy... Harmonic balancer (near) is correct - near the main pulley. Good luck getting the job done.
Guest zukebaby
Try looking at www.Fordtruckenthusiast.com, I used to get a ton of information there when I had my Bronco.
