Caught a shoplifter

So....we were in Wal-Mart the other night and I saw this dude back in the garden dept. stuffing something down his pants. It was kinda late and I guess he thought no one was watching. He happened to look over his shoulder when he was done, and there I was:D

I pretended like I wasn't going to do anything and continued looking around. Just as he went around the corner a Wal-Mart girl stopped and asked if we needed any help. I said, "No, but you better check out the guy around the corner, he's stuffing things in his pants." She followed him, and a little while later came back and thanked me. He had a DVD player jammed in his pants. What a tool.

I was proud of myself.

Funny..........when I worked there right after I graduated high school...we weren't allowed to "bust" anyone for shoplifting. We had to notify a manager then they had to witness the theft. How stupid is that??

Let me re-phrase........................

Unless the manager witnessed the actual theft, the shoplifter could get away with it. Many a thief got away with stolen goods simply because I was the one who saw it happen, not a manager. My word wasn't good enough.

Been there done that. I was washing my hands in the bathroom when a young fellow came in with 3 or 4 dvd's and started jamming them in his britches. I grabbed the kid and walked him to the customer service area and made him confess.LOL Should have see the look on his fathers face when he showed up. Im sure this young fella didn't feel so well. lol His father just smiled at me and said thankyou very much, I'll take care of it.

That is pretty screwy Andrea. With all the cams in wal mart nowadays, surely they could find these persons who do this type of thing and provide proof.

What I don't understand is how do these people think they can get away with it at Wal-Mart these days anyway?? Everything in the store that has to do with electronics or is expensive is marked and if you go thru the door without paying for it, it sets off an alarm. ( At our store anyway) Back when I worked there, they didn't have that technology. ( 1991-92)
