Massive Heart attack... dead at 43

By now the news is beginning to circulate... Reggie White, the greatest Defensive End in the NFL, and perhaps one of the biggest figures in the NFL and an all around awesome person, was found dead in his home this morning... from a massive heart attack. At 43 years old crazy.gifcrazy.gifcrazy.gif His presence in this world will greatly be missed. By far, he is the biggest loss the NFL and sports in general has experienced, in my lifetime (with a possible exception being Dale Ernhardt (DE).

This is not only a post to offer condolences to the family and league, but rather a wake-up call to all of you 40+ forum members.

I would encourage all of you to get into your Doctors and have a complete history and phyiscal. It seems as though the average age of Acute Coronary Attacks gets lower and lower, as well as the incidence of other medical problems... So as the new year comes into being... make a resolution to be seen by your family Dr. It might not be the most pleasant experience... but I am certain... Reggie's children and his wife would give anything to have Dad Back.

May Reggie rest in piece and a peace, that surpasses all understanding surround his wife and children... and all of those who were blessed by such a wonderful man.

Re: Massive Heart Attach

BG, that was a great what you posted.

As a person who has had 9 angiograms and 7 angioplaties, everyone should get and have a good cardioligist and go to that doctor for a complete checkup! There are several tests they can run and do a very thorough evaluation.

I have been very lucky in that I have not had a heart attack! The doctor has always been able to catch it before that happened.

Don't wait until it is too late. Also if you smoke or chew, QUIT!!!

Re: Massive Heart Attach

Great post! My brother in law who is only 41 years old was having chest pains a couple of weekends ago while walking to and from his stand. He finally went to the doctor on Monday and they found he had a 95% blockage to one of the major artories to his heart, don't recall the name of it. He had an angioplasty and is home and actually back out hunting 2 weeks after his surgery. Gotta love modern medecine!

Re: Massive Heart Attach

This is so sad to hear and I pray that God be with his family and friends during their time of loss.

You are so right about everyone keeping a close eye on their heart but not just those over 40. We just found out that my sister-in-law has a heart defect that causes the valves to open prematurely and stay open too long. She is only 26 years old and now she can have no more children (they have one daughter and were planning a second child), no caffiene, cigarettes, alcohol, or any of that other "fun" stuff. She found out "accidently" as she is taking classes to become a cardiology tech and her classmates were giving each other some of the heart tests they will later be doing on patients. Lucky for her they found this because it isn't a test normally run on someone so young. It is never too early to start taking care of yourself!

Plus I am overdue for another colonoscopy shocked.gif

Lucky you! grin.gifgrin.gifgrin.gif... Just a suggestion... check into a "virtual" colonoscoy, they are more and more common, about 1/3 the cost of an invasive, and although the "prep" is the same, they are not nearly as "unpleasant". Best of luck with that scope wink.gif

Re: Massive Heart attack... dead at 43

I think Reggie died of complications from sleep apnea. Thats common with people who are big, thick necked and over weight. As a nurse I have seen many people die from it and its easily detected, especially if your married. Do you snore? Have a thick neck? When you sleep do you sound obstructed. If so there are sleep labs that can help and its easy to treat. My 2cents on the subject.
